MagicWren

Missing image

       A most resourceful,
              bold, adaptable bird.
       She sings...
           from daylight
              to dark,
              as if overflowing
              with confidence.

       Known to be quite brave,
              she'll not hesitate
                  to confront
                any threatening bird
                    or animal...
                  especially when her young
                         are threatened.

        She seldom shows
          herself in the open.
              Her magical feathers
                      guard against drowning.

          She is MagicWren.

Author notes

The wren is thought to Native Americans to have magical powers in their feathers. Especially to guard against drowning. When I was 22, I saved my cousin from drowning in a lake, so I thought this information was important to include. Most will know why I chose a bird, but the Magic part comes from my clowning, where I do lots of "magic" tricks in my act.

One Native American story, speaks of the legend of the wren. She tricked the eagle, who was boasting of his flying skills, into carrying her high into the heavens. When the eagle could go no higher, the wren hopped off eagle's back and flew beyond the clouds, laughing at how much higher it was flying than the eagle.

Lovely poem, Cheryl. Wrens are still hard to find here in the UK. In the Close which I've just left there are a couple which return each year. We hardly ever see them, but we do hear them. Tiny, pretty, magic little birds.

What more could you ask for from your feathery friends? To be brave, clever and resourceful, sounds just like you're describing yourself.

    Sincerely,
