Untitled

The students sleep soundly
Though they appear to be
alert and awake.

They dream of

laughter
sugar highs
hugs.

They have nightmares about

tests
papers
why he didn't
kiss her good-night.

'Any questions?'

Her voice did not arouse them
from slumber.

Oblivious to the structures
of their tired
complex minds

she pressed the chalk
back a rap a tap tap
on the board.
