Well, if the Bible's true (as I believe),
The one to resurrect, I think, should be
The man that started all earth's misery,
Who watched as serpent did his wife deceive.
For if he had obeyed the word of God,
The world may still dwell in a paradise;
I'm sure he would have mulled it over twice
If he had thought he'd soon return to sod.
Instead, he chose the lie and ate the fruit,
Which started all the problems known to man,
Whereby, from garden, soon there was a ban-
I'm sure the pain of sin was quite acute.
He KNEW the consequences in advance...
If only Adam had a second chance.
Author notes
I don't know what you're theories are on the beginning of the earth, or why bad things happen. I know you wouldn't agree with me.
But, I thought it might be interesting to write about resurrecting the very first man ever living. Since the only perspective I believe is the biblical one, I chose Adam, since he has a pretty interesting story in that respect. According to the Bible, Adam was the first man to sin, and this sin affected all men afterward, as well as creation itself, putting a curse on them. Could you imagine what that could have felt like, to walk in his place? In effect, what he did way back then is still having affects on us today- talk about having the weight of the world on your shoulders!
Technically, I followed your rules- it's not a poem about God or Jesus. Because of this, I hope you'll still consider this as a plausible entry for this contest.

Yeh...well....um.....errr....you lost me somewhere along the line. Never mind.
Why did God allow the thyroid cancer in the first place? Well, no doubt you'll have an answer fer that. Best Wishes. -

Here are some more thoughts for you- if the idea of being created in an exact image TO YOU means having the same intelligence, then why can't we speak something into existence?
And yet another thought!- God is HOLY... That means He not only HATES sin (-not the sinner, mind you-), but He won't even allow it anywhere near Him, it's so heinous!
I have another interesting analogy for you... Did you ever think that evil may be NECESSARY at times? In the past six months, I know of two ladies that have had thyroid cancer. part of their treatment is to drink a liquid that actually contains radioactive material. While it was in their systemm, they were not allowed to go anywhere near children, because of they were radioactive!
If God can use something like that for someone's good, why can He not allow a tree of knowledge of good AND evil in His own garden that He SPOKE into existence?
AND... Since God DID know that man would make such a stupid choice, He MADE AN ALTERNATIVE means to Paradise (Heaven) with Him! -
An image of something is like a replica, but it isn't the same thing. It's also has the same idea as a reflection in a mirror- you and your reflection have the same image... but there is obviously one that is more intelligent of the two!
God knew what we'd choose... but we don't! We DO have a choice, in everything we think, say, and do. Just because He knows what we're going to choose doesn't mean we don't have one. This would be like a father watching his child take a cookie from the table when he told the child not to do so, even though he shared the consequences. The child still made the choice to take it. -
I'm sorry, your comment doesn't make sense to me. What does creating in his own image mean if it doesn't mean they were the same, level or otherwise. If you know what is going to happen, then how can you have a choice. Would you like to read The Creation of the World and Other Business by Arthur Miller and tell me what you think of it? I suspect you won't like it very much. I'm sorry, but I don't see that the Bible is to be taken any more literally than Harry Potter. I do occasionally read it, you know - I love Genesis, but only as a work of poetry, not as a blueprint for how to live my life. And if we are still receiving the consequences of our actions from your God, then I think He's being just a wee bit unfair. You take your Paradise, I'll take the World.

God created man in His own IMAGE- that does NOT mean they were on the same level! Yes, God knew what Adam would do, but He still gave him the choice. And who is man to think he has any place to "negotiate" with the Almighty God that created him??? GOd is not a spoiled child- if anything, He's a just Father, and we are teh children. The "child" received the consequences of his actions, since the Father had previously warned him.
God put the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the garden for almost the same reason He put all of the other ones in there- for His pleasure. He made it- He can do what He wants with it!
I think life on this earth can do without A LOT of the "excitement" that goes on these days. -
Here's one for you: God created Man in his own image - agreed? And God is omniscient, agreed? If we accept these two premises, ten God knew what was going to happen to Adam. And he invested Adam with his own faults. Adam's only sin was disobedience - couldn't God have negotiated with him, instead of acting like a spoilt child and casting him out of Paradise? Why plant the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the first place? Unless God wanted Adam to sin - obviously with His omniscience He knew it would happen anyway. And wouldn't the World be a hell of a boring place without the knowledge of good and evil anyway? Who wants to sit about in a Paradise, without choice, for all eternity? Think about it.......

Intriguing entry... in spite of the cup, I wish I had thought of it. Wouldn't the first human love to see the marvels of our day? Then again, wouldn't he be horrified to see that HE was responsible for spawning every crime, every war, every sin. Wow... If I were him, I'd cash it in as soon as I was resurrected!

Very plausible and my opninions aren't shared by you, it doesn't alter the fact that you have written a very good piece which you believe in.
Thank you for your entry
