Far From Home

Missing image
The traveling soldier picks up his gun
his fight for freedom has just begun
there are no boundaries for bravery
he will go anywhere that war might be

He is the father who loves His child
as a soldier strong, as a dad so mild
our sons and daughters join the fight
fighting tyranny is just and so right

Traveling afar they answer the call
knowing they may have to give their all
they lay down their life for you and me
in harms way fighting on to victory

They don't ask much, so unselfish within
never looking back to where they've been
traveling forward where terror may be
fighting far from home across the sea

The traveling soldier has God by His side
to comfort the wounded and those who died
war is always ugly and war is Hell too
but there love of country sees them through

Their honor and courage are remarkable
fearless,  compassionate and  unstoppable
God bless our soldiers each and everyone
they never give up till the fighting is done

Brave sailors sail on the unforgiving sea
in submarines and warships so courageously
coast guard protects in all kinds of weather
as the Army and the Marines fight together

The Air Force flies into the heavenly skies
sounding sonic booms as they fly so high
so remember our soldiers who are at war
it is you, me and freedom they fight for

God Bless Our Troops

This was great and made me think of some people - I have two friends, an ex boyfriend and a boyfriend-at-the-moment going into the military soon so this was nice to read. I'm going to show it to them

    Written well and good luck.

Count me in as being old fashioned and I think after awhile as the people think about it they long for something to hold onto. Having spent the morning with soldiers going about the business of taking care of business here on American soil I still salute them and you as well.

    Patriotic Write!

A soldiers job is never done; this is why we must support our troops. You told a great message in your poem and gave due homage to those unsung heroes. The rhyme and the image of the soldier complimented the poem even more. Thank you Sandygram for commenting to my poem 'Mighty Mike'. I appreciate your kindness. Avril

    WONDERFUL COMMENT

Yes I am very patriotic. I still get a tear when we sing God Bless America. I may not always agree with the choices our government makes but I will always support the men and women of our armed forces. God Bless them for all they do to keep us free. Thank you for the lovely comment. Take care, Sandy

A very good write It seems old fashioned to be patriotic these days, but I'm an old fashioned gal, I guess. Your poem touched me and the picture and colors are just the right touch. Good luck in the contest !!!

This poem really did touch me a bit, even though my country isn't at war right now, I know how much support all troops need. Great write and best of luck to you in this contest. And omg! I went on your author page and my mouth dropped open at how many trophies you have! i feel like an amateur!!!
