ALONE IN THE FOREST
Nestled deep in the forest
Mighty unicorn would hide
Never ventured from his domain
For his existence was denied
Unicorns were only legends of old
Fairy tale myth of long long ago
Such a strident stallion in stature
Eyes sparkled in bright moon glow
His snow white mane would sway
As leaves rustled on the ground
All other creatures in the forest
Disappeared were never found
As twilight cast it's shadows
Outline can be seen of his horn
As he rears up on his hind legs
He is so majestic this unicorn
For this forest was forbidden
It was void of other life you see
Legend tells of this place where
The unicorn could wander free
No one ventureS into the forest
Their fears keep them all away
That's why no one has ever seen
The unicorn to this very day
Hear sounds of hooves prancing
Glimpse shadows through trees
On the quietest nights of winter
You hear him cry in the breeze
For alone in the night he wanders
Waiting for another break of day
He searches for another unicorn
A mare to take his loneliness away

This was beautiful Sandy - I think you caught the nature and the spirit of the Unicorn precisely, or at least, the Unicorn as I see it!
Especially loved the lines:
and on the quietest nights of winter
you can hear him crying in the breeze
It's so simple and yet so heartbrekaingly sad, for me anyway
Great job, and thanks for entering! -
