She danced at midnight on top of her mountain
Mesmerized by the moon and stars in the sky
Moonbeams reflecting off her long brown hair
And the stars shimmering in her baby blue eyes
She had a wish straight from her spirit
Just waiting for one that shooting star
And if she could fly I know she would catch it
Then keep it in a magical crystalline jar
This night was her birthday, a night just for her
As she waited for her wish to come true
Not blowing on candles or singing a song
But chasing dreams till the brisk morning dew
With baby blue eyes she captured her star
Shooting across the immense Milky Way
And in that instant she made her wish
Knowing in her heart that today “is the day”
Her wish - a genuine plea for a friend
Someone to keep in her heart
Someone to help her brush the canvas
Painting color on her old piece of art
What she didn’t realize at the time
Is that we were “all” already there
Painting the backgrounds in her world
And praying for her in her despair
I love my niece with all of my heart
I’m proud to call her my friend
She is the rock yet with softness she cries
With a heart that will always transcend
I wish for her - with all of my soul
The best birthday this worlds ever seen
And if I could give her that one shooting star
I’d give up all my wishes and dreams
I love you kiddo, happy birthday
