A Cowboy's Dream

Missing image
Rolling meadows of wildflowers
sprawling hills on the range
fireflies flicker in the twilight
in the silence far from the grange

In the distance the moon is rising
another sunset is fading away
a cowboys life sees natures beauty
the beginning and end of each day

This trail can be mighty dusty
can clear the cobwebs in my mind
I have the heart of a cowboy
my city life  was left far behind

I roam the range like the buffalo
with a hot poker I hold in my hand
the smell of burnt hide is evident
as I mark the steers with a brand

Chow time in the morning  comes early
breakfast starts at the break of day
chow for the evening is at sunset
making for one mighty long hard day

Then it's off with the boots and saddles
I shall rest up for another long day
time to reminisce about the love I lost
when this cowboy life took me away

A lone wolf is howling in the distance
breaking the silence of a star filled night
my saddlebag propped up as my pillow
for this cowboy, everything is just right

this was beautifully written. Reminds me of a Western movie I just saw ..My sister loves the west, old western lore; I'll just have to have her read this.
