Busy (Rictameter)

Busy

"Busy
is as busy
does", they say, but I'm
completely at a loss to know
exactly what "they" mean by that remark.
Oh, I suppose I ought to go
and look it up somewhere,
but I'm way too
busy.

Del Warren Livingston (c) right now 2005

Author notes

Rictameter is a diamond-shaped poem of nine lines, opening and closing with the same two syllables. The syllable count of the lines is 2 4 6 8 10 8 6 4 2.

Written September 11th, 2005

Hah! so glad that the Zahhar man sent me this way.
It was way worth it. This models the style and form. Whoever's surrogate for this author, it is fantastic, might I say... 'right on'!

God bless all who are lined
    in his path behind.

A Fine Poet on his way home!

Well you know the old saying, 'you get no recognition until you're gone' The site is a home to hundreds maybe more aspiring poets and it's unfortunate that I may not meet most of them during my time here at AP. Although i've never been priviledge to have known Del or read any of his poetry, I find this poem 'Busy' to be a humorous. If this is an example to the type of work he pens then I say, I've missed much. May he rest in peace.

a beautiful write this poem is...may you rest in peace Del, although I never knew you...this last poem..."busy" seems to say it all...to many people in life are too busy to take the time to talk, to associate, to understand the values and social consciene that make up humanity (or do now)...I am sorry I never was able to meet you, just this one poem flared the inspiration in my mind for 4000 others. Rest deeply and happily.. "May angels lead you in"

It looks like I missed out on meeting another fine poet on this website because of my life and medical condition that made me 'too busy' to reach out and explore. Even though too late to meet this person through the cyber world of allpoetry.com, it is not still too late to read the works that he has left us to enjoy. May you find the peace and solitude and are no longer 'busy' to enjoy the peace.

This paticular poem made me smile, and I loved the humor woven into the words with that sort of.. unique poetic flow along with it. Short and definitely pleasant. Nevertheless, his majesty of words astounds me, and will live on in the memories of many thanks to this site. What can I say? Live on, poet. Live on through your words and your painted poetry. Auden may have said, "The words of a dead man are modified in the guts of the living..." and he may well be right. But sometimes...sometimes...it is just a joy to read. Rest in peace.

well right now I am busy critiquing this piece, and it strikes me as one of the few pieces around here on AP that stands as an oddball, such simple and quirky expression of self is rare because it is thoughts like these that make up the anatomy of a man. Not simply the great moments, the ones of the most consequence. Well done here in this poem, however I feel you could have been slightly more descriptive with your expression, that bone aside this is a well written piece. Thank you for sharing this poem with us,

A poem that speaks such truth. In light of Del's passing, this takes on a rather somber meaning, though. How many of us have said we were too busy when our friends and loved ones wanted to spend time with us? How many of us have put off making that call or writing that letter because we were sure that there would be time later? We never know when our time is up, so consider this poem and think fondly of Del. Now he really does have all of the time in the world Blessings to his friends and family.

    Dear Del,
I'd never heard of this form before. As a matter of fact, if anyone had asked me to define Rictameter I'd probably have guesses it was a device for measuring rectal distances or speeds.
You are doing a great job with this collection of exotic poetry forms, many of which I'm sure will come in useful for those who avoid rhyming poetry!
Glad to see you are keeping yourself busy!!
    Applause and regards, Hugh.
