hopeful streets

sitting on a bench
watching a girl sitting on a street corner drinking a glass of lemonade and
asking strangers for a cigarette so she can feel a bit like she used to
with her friend sitting beside her with a hat at her feet
waiting for someone to drop them some change, drop the change in but
she wont pick it up until youre out of her sight becux
she doesnt want you to feel more that youre better than they are
when theyve worked so hard to be sitting where they are
no shame mister
thats how life should be
for them and me
dont need anything but hope that someday everyone will join us on the street
