There once was a Captain of a sailing ship
he loved sailing upon the deep blue sea
with shiny dark hair and eyes of brown
six feet tall and handsome as can be
He was known as the Mike the Buccaneer
wearing his silk shirts of orange and gold
stealing from the rich to help the poor
Mike was daring and brave and so bold
One day a pirate ship went sailing by
full of treasures of diamonds and pearls
as he looked through his long eyeglass
he saw the face of a pretty young girl
Mike new he had seen the maiden before
his mind kept wondering where it could be
then he looked again through the eyeglass
the pirate's ship was sinking into the sea
He sailed quickly over to the wreckage
the sea was so quiet there wasn't a sound
his eyes kept searching for the young woman
a box full of diamonds was the only thing found
He picked up the box and sailed for home
he would use the diamonds to help the poor
his mind kept thinking of the pretty young girl
could she have washed upon the island shore
For a moment he heard a beautiful voice singing
something was splashing all around in the sea
the women was hanging on the side of the ship
she had a large fish tail hanging into the sea
The pretty woman was a mermaid from the island
the pirates had captured her in their fish net
as he leaned over the side to kiss the mermaid
she splashed her tail and got him soaking wet
Now when Mike sails past that tropical isle
the mermaid's sweet song brings back memories
of that day long ago he met his true love
the mermaid swimming in the deep blue sea

This is so cute. You have such an imagination! As usual, the rhyming is great. Interesting choice of name for the handsome Buccaneer. You should look for a contest for this. It's a sure winner. Take care.

That was worth two smiles
. Cute poem, and it had a splashing end.

This poem was nice, so full of colorful imagery, an older poetic feel to it. I loved it. You did an awesome job mom. This piece was really good, and written well.
