Why do I feel like time is passing me by?
It seems as though the present
Slips quietly into the past.
It isnt that I want the world to stop spinning,
Or for time to stand still;
Maybe just slow down
Just a little...
Enough for me to catch my breath.
It's odd how I find myself constantly wishing away time
In order to get to something.
An event...an occasion...or another place in life...
Wishing and hoping it would hurry and arrive.
Then suddenly...before I realize it...
The moments I waited so impatiently for,
Are here and gone.
I almost feel as though Im endlessly cheated;
Cheated out of life because I fail to stop...
To stop and enjoy the place in time where I am.
The place I wanted to get to is upon me...
Im in the midst of where I longed to be,
Yet I cant stay....
Why is it that we spend so much of our lives waiting?
Waiting for the moment...
Restlessly struggling to get to where we want to be...
Yet when we are right there....
Right in the midst of that place....
We let it pass by...
Too Quickly....much too quickly.
Without realizing...time passes and it is gone.
I find it painfully scary,
To come to the conclusion...
That the biggest portion of my life,
Has been spent wishing time away.
And now...yet again...the circle continues
As I wish to have it back.
What is the secret?
Tell me someone......
How do I find a way to stay?
When I am in the midst of that place....
Not the future....not tomorrow....not the past...
How do I stop and stay....here and now?

You started out with a question: "Why do I feel like time is passing me by?" I think every one of us at some point in our lives asks the same question. The answer has yet to be found. You have obviously put a lot of thought and expression into this piece. Please take some comfort in knowing that there are others who feel the same way. You actually said in words what many of us have only thought.
Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,

Very nice
Each moment is unique, a drop of eternity never to be seen again. Cherish them all.
Thanks for reminding me of that.

what a beautiful poem, it does make you think. What your saying is true. Too often i think "What if..." instead of having the courage to try something out and have the experience good or bad. I think that it takes a lot of courage to do as your poem suggests, to explore, to be afraid, not knowing what might happen and where you'll end up in life, but if you courageous enough to take risks, go for it, because you can't life life in a dream

This is where I feel that age has to do with everything...your path in life will not be easy...and it does not get easier when older...but all the same you somehow just do slow down and smell the roses...for that is what is most important...the exact sec that you are enjoying something you just want to really be able to enjoy it enough to make it a memory...life is in a rush...long ago I decided I was not going to join in that rush...one day you will make your own decesion on how you want to live...maybe that time is now...great poem...enjoyed reading...made me think as you can see..thanks for sharing

We do that, don't we? Wish away our days, till a whole lifetime is gone. We wake up, look around and wonder how we got to where we are, and what we passed by on the way. Clear and pointed write. Well described, this feeling of how much of life we waste waiting. Thanks for this one.

I think the repetition in the beginning of this stanza doesn't really work out well:
I almost feel as though Im endlessly cheated;
Cheated out of life because I fail to stop...
To stop and enjoy the place in time where I am.
The place I wanted to get to is upon me...
Im in the midst of where I longed to be,
Yet I cant stay....
Other than that, a good piece here.

Beautifully worded poetic question! Sheila, read my poem, "Lost in Time," and I think you'll find the answer there. I don't watch a clock or go by day and night, and there is no now, only past and future, but we can learn that the "space" we're in is what matters. No waiting. Do all we can within these spaces, because the footprints I leave behind me are the tick-tocks of the clock. I really love how your mind digs deep! Yeah! Love this!

I always contemplate these thoughts...that time goes too quickly..and I'm always waiting for the next something to happen..and before I know it...it's here and gone....and all the while...I am not really enjoying anything in the here and now.
This was wonderfully done..great job.

"How do I stop and stay here now."
It is ashame we can't just stop and stay, but unfortunaley we can't. We just have to move forward with time. This is a great write, you have done well in it. -
even after so long away from your work ... it still moves me as much as it ever did ... great to see something new
I'll leave you with a quote I left Tina earlier this week, Goethe once said, "Nothing is worth more than this day." ...

i know this feeling.... -
don't touch it!
wow, i can really relate to this. we seem to always be looking forward to something. i think the best thing you can do when something you have waited for finally arrives is to stop, stand back, observe, and take a mental picture. that way you will always have that memory. anyway great write :)
