Rain poured down into the sewers of our city
there were so many thoughts running like flashes
right through, below, above, behind
strangely enough, as the thunder crashed,
revealing personal epiphanies,
delightfully shaking the foundation
I realized, that no matter how horrid a situation may be,
if you have strong roots, even flowers can grow in a gutter

beautiful and well said. I can't feel more hopeful. this was very inciteful

I agree. Strength, no matter the location, will keep you going even if you aren't in the best place to grow.
Flowers manage to bloom in the darkest and ugliest places, giving beauty to the simplest things.
I notice this sometimes when I am walking, most specifically at night.
It might have just rained and I'll sense that there is a beauty abounding in my sight, but I can't find it and then I look down to see a puddle of water reflecting the streetlamp's light in just the right way.
And in that moment I want to go wash my paper and pen with poetry and find a space of silence to write.
It is true, beauty blooms in the gutter cause it's all in the eye of the beholder.
What beauty does and is can be and be seen in many different ways, by each every person.
much love,
James

Yeah, you're right. A gutter flower can be as beautiful as any other flower!
For me, "gutter flowers" represent impoverished people who overcome their circumstances against the odds, doing whatever they have to do to survive--and end up thriving. Some people live on faith, others on hard work and yet others by a combination of luck and the kindness of others. You are very perceptive.
I can't seem to write hopeful poems nowadays, so thanks for this piece.
Many blessings,
Raven Aurora

Profound!
Profoundly creative and Powerful! Brilliant use of metaphors.
Equating thunder and shaking foundations with the jarring of the perceptive mind thus causing and epiphany! Magnicficent!
