Theft

You think I will wait,
A held breath of anticipation;
But you have missed your moment
Why should I give you anything but a backwards glance?

You hold my green eyes,
Wrapping jade around our memories;
Why do you even bother
To give us a name?
You will only be wrong.

Try to sweep me away, my dear
And see what happens;
I am not the dirt
Upon your floor.

Why should I look
At the scuffed heels
Of my soul
And think twice?

It was you who took
What you didn’t own;
You were a penny
Never earned.
