As in my ageing years I recall
The love we shared
When both of us were young.
Those festive nights,
The sparkling wine,
The fireworks of love
In galaxies 'til then unknown.
But now my dear, it is a quieter love,
That you and I do seek.
One of holding hands, making love with eyes,
As I brush yet another tear from your cheek.
Ageing has been kind on us, through the passing years
Even though she has left her mark.
She has left our hearts with the will to love
Be it daylight, or the dark.
Now as I sit beside you here
Your head cradled in my arm
Softly humming the songs we sung
When we danced when we were young.
The love we knew then still fires my breast
As I recall those yesterdays
And I love you now as I did then
In my own quiet gentle way.

Here is a poem that touches me very deeply. I guess you can say that I am one of the truly lucky or blessed ones in life, for I have this type of love with in it. Not only do I receive this type of love from the man in my life, but I also receive a love similar to this from my children and my siblings. This is truly a gift to receive and to be able to give.
You have captured the essence of a beautiful aspect of life very expertly.
I wish you luck,
Alimae -

Gosh Sammy, But now my dear,
It is a quieter love,
That you and I do seek.
One of holding hands,
Making love with eyes,
As I brush yet another tear from your cheek. bought a lump into my throat for sure, Ageing has been kind on us
Through the passing years
Even though she has left her mark.
She has left our hearts with the will to love
Be it daylight, or the dark. be it daylight, or the dark, this stanza melts my heart Sammy, your last stanza, The love we knew then
Still fires my breast
As I recall those yesterdays
And I love you now as I did then
In my own quiet gentle way. words fail me, whose heart wouldn't "turn insideout" reading such beautiful words of sincere love? A winner Sammy for sure

Sammy, this is so soft and warm and sweet that it brought a tear to my eye. I LOVE it. It is written with such sincerity and love. My favorite line is: she left our hearts with the will to love. Sighs...still teary eyed at such affection. ~ Hugs to you and yours ~ Joyce -

don't touch it!
Sammy, this is so touching and probably the most realistic look at love as it ages. Wonderful work brings tears to my eyes as I read it...truely written from the heart. -
don't touch it!
this is so poignant and striking in its quiet romanticism. yes, love as we age never looses the power once shown in our youth. mature love doesn't fade away, it only seeps into our bones, takes residence in our touch and dwells in our eyes.

don't touch it!
Oh, Sammy, this is exquisite, so romantic and beautiful. And yes, the passing years do not seem to lessen the love felt between us. It's subtle changes over the years, when reflected upon, are kind, loving and still romantic.
This poem is so delicate, yet strong with those feelings lingering in our lives, in our hearts.

sammy, this has got to be the most gorgeous love song you've ever written...and you've written a great many excellent ones...many of which i've read...but none can compare with this. the honesty, the warmth, the sense of irony barely detectable...i can't find enough words to describe what i feel. you've just about perfectly described the perfect love we all seek so tirelessly, yet so seldom realize that we have...
bravo, sammy:)
*smiles & hugs*
