Lizzie

Missing image
She's prowling the garden looking for prey
She takes no notice whatever you say
Lost in her kingdom of birds and mice
She'll bring you one home if you ask her nice.

She moves like a snake, close to the ground
Eyes ever watching but never a sound.
A rustle of bushes, she's waiting and glued
She will do as she pleases, she has an attitude.

Then there's the dog who she just loves to tease
Nipping his nose and making him sneeze
Invading his bed, his own private space
She'll settle beside him and just smirk in his face.

She goes missing for hours, losing all track of time
Asleep in the long grass all thoughts left behind
If you rattle her plate or open a tin
You can bet on your life she will stroll right on in.

Lizzie dear Lizzie what a true pleasure you are
A sweet little thing, a bright shining star
A poor lonely soul who started life all alone
But now you're a Queen and this is your home.

Author notes

Written August 22nd, 2005

Lizzie was a stray cat I found living at the bottom of my garden, she was almost starved and had a very bad infection in her tail. I am a great animal lover and don't mind saying that I prefer animals to people ( an animal has never yet let me down ) So I took Lizzie in and after having her tail amputated she has found her rich and royal throne within my family, and we love her to bits!

Thank you very much for your comments. I have another poem about how I found her if you would like to have a look, it's called Elizabeth (her Sunday name lol ) there is a beautiful close up picture of her. Thanks again for reading my work. Just look in my animal category. It's ok you don't have to comment---but it's such a nice pic of her.

This is so gorgeous! I loved the descriptions and the rhyming used. I wanna give Lizzie a cuddle she looks so sweet! She reminds me of my Nan's cat called Peaches because she has a big patch of peach coloured fur on her face just like the specks on Lizzie. A warm-fuzzy-feeling poem

I really like your tribute to your cat, Lizzie! You have captured her very well and she is a purrfect representative of the feline species as she is "all cat". Your poem captures the essence of a cat so well, that any cat lover can put their cat's name in place of your Lizzie! Technically, I think a few well placed commas would enhance your work! Also, I noticed a typo in the fouth line of the second verse, "she will do has (as) she pleases". Otherwise, well-written and rhymed! From one cat lover to another--thanks for sharing!
