So young with dreams
Of growing old
Sadly, the facts of life
He was never told
One too many parties
One too many beers
Too much sex
And now so many tears
One too many partners
To satisfy his lust
Slowly now,
His body turns to dust
His head hangs low
Trying to hide his shame
But now he knows
He has no one to blame
Each day
Growing more weak
Still not finding
The love he seeks
At age 23
He is laid to rest
Without ever completing
His life's true quest
Of growing old
Sadly, the facts of life
He was never told
One too many parties
One too many beers
Too much sex
And now so many tears
One too many partners
To satisfy his lust
Slowly now,
His body turns to dust
His head hangs low
Trying to hide his shame
But now he knows
He has no one to blame
Each day
Growing more weak
Still not finding
The love he seeks
At age 23
He is laid to rest
Without ever completing
His life's true quest

That was such a beautiful tribute to your brother. AIDS is taking so many more lives now, and it's a scary thought. Though they may be gone, they're never forgotten. That's why it still hurts years after someone passes. I'm still grieving over my great grandfather I lost 13 years ago.
Best of wishes

well done!
The sad reality of this piece warrants naught but the reader's sincere sympathy. I'm sure it must have been a difficult experience for you, and probably still is. I've lost someone to AIDS as well, not nearly as close, but close enough to be a witness to the painstaking course of the horror. No one truly knows it unless he\she has either experienced it or watched it happen to a loved one.
You expressed this story very emotionally, but artistically as well. Great job, and best wishes in the contest!

Wow! I'm almost speechless for words. This was a great poem. You express how so many people feel and what so many people are going through. Good job.

This is a truly beautiful write. My cousin died from AIDS 10 years ago, I was too young to understand what was going on or what caused such heart felt grief. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I like the fact that you held the flow so well...Nice quatrains...an emotional/confused backdrop that your poetry dispenses is good!
