The Engagement

My Lord has shown His love to me
In every single way,
And all I have is five minutes
To find something to say?

And yet I know- there's just three words
To show Him how I care;
No chit-chat need be babbled on-
We haven't time to spare!

For if I read His message right,
A wedding's coming soon;
He's already preparing our
Celestial honeymoon!

So, when I see Him face to face,
I want the world there, too,
To hear me SHOUT my answer clear-
These three words: "LORD, I DO!"

There's really nothing else to do
But let the minutes burn,
For time is best used waiting for
His imminent return.

And, just as He has promised me,
He'll take me as I am,
Where, gladly, I'll no longer be
Fiancée of the Lamb!

Engagements are preparing days-
The less is more to me;
For time with Him will not begin
Until eternity.

Author notes

If I were allowed to spend, on this earth, five minutes with Jesus... the Lover of my soul... what really could I say?  I'm pretty much speechless at that thought!  Yet, God gave me a few words.

    top notch

    You have written a beautiful piece here. I like how you wrote about your relationship with God being a union. When you said "three words" I thought, "I love you" but instead, you had something much better, "Lord, I do!" I also liked the term "fiance of the lamb" VERY well written.

    WONDERFUL POEM

    This is just breath taking. You say what I feel in my heart. He is my only beloved and will always have my heart first and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Thank you for entering this excellent poem. God Bless, Sandy

    This is so wonderful. Thank you for reminding me about this contest. What an awesome thought - to have 5 minutes with Him! You've captured the awe of the moment well. There is another Christian contest that ends today allpoetry.com/Contest/1415339 by Samplette - another wonderful Christian. You need to be part of her Group - Place of Prayer. This group is awesome and I think you will like it and be blessed. Hope to see you there. - love and hugs - joanne

    I was totally inspired by this contest, and humbled at the same time... Rita, can you imagine if Jesus was here for five minutes??? I just know I'd be speechless for the first four minutes and fifty-seven seconds! LOL

    I've had marriage on the brain again... thankfully, there's a way to spiritually reflect on it. I AM getting married someday- if not on earth, then definitely in Heaven!

    I've thought of starting a Yahoo Group called "Finacés of the Lamb", too. We'll see! Thanks for the applause!

    Nice

    Hey, this is awesome!! Lol I am so happy that you're writing more, I completely and utterly love your poems. This one was sweet, honest and unexpected - I thought that those three words would be "I love You", but you avoided the cliché very well. Great job sweetheart!
