I found at five
He made my life
Just come alive
I saw him there
In all that dark
Limping in a trailer park
He was a mess
A broken leg
Just a mutt
My mother said
I wanted him
He wanted me
Not just a mutt
Not what I see
We took him home
Vet fixed him up
He was all mine
That was enough
That stubborn pup
He stole my heart
Far too soon he did depart
He’s passed on now
Older I’ve grown
But to his memory
I still hold on
I love that dog
From now till end
I miss you boy
My old best friend
Author notes
This is about my dog Bubba I had when I was younger. His name was just Bubba but everyone called him Bubba Dog, it just stuck. He was my best friend from age five and we did everything together; he even protected my mom when she almost got mugged late one night in the car. He was an amazing companion and passed unfittingly too soon. I hope you like the read and thanks if you enjoyed it.

I have 3 French Brittanys and know the love and dedications they bring to us. You stirred that deciation marvelously!
I like the form and the content for the most part. Some tweaking would make it unique. Thank you very much for adhering to the criteria, a most important portion of contest entering~

Oh!! This's so cute!! Wished I had a dog like yours. My mum's actually a cat-lover, so from time to time, we get to keep kittens now and then. The most exciting one when we had to take care and look after 5 kittens in our house. The only problem was that these kittens just couldn't stand still!! But they're really cute. Love 'em!! 'Old best friend', yeah! It'll be the same for me, if I had kept the kittens with me long enough! Hahaha... -
Oh goodness, I am going to actually cry. What a precious memory. Thanks for sharing. God Bless BrendaKaye

I like the flow of this poem. It is short, and sweet and descriptive

I enjoy the flow of this poem--short and sweet. I can see a little boy with his stray mutt in your poem. It was very descriptive and reminded me of my own childhood doggie--Golfo (also a stray muutt).

Awww I loved this, being an avid dog lover and know the deep loss thats felt when your little friend passes, I can definitly sympathize. Also I really could feel the innoscence of childhood in this, very beautiful.

This is a very beautiful poem. I love dogs so much and miss mine a lot, as i am at university and he still lives at home with my parents. This was a very touching write.
One thing, in the line:
"Far to soon he did depart"
you should use 'too' instead of 'to'.

Being a dog owner myself, I know these feelings all too well. I think you did a wonderful job telling us of your meeting with your best friend. The rhyming was good, but felt like it dropped a couple places in the scheme. But even with that, it really didn’t take away from the enjoyment I had reading it.

Anything about dogs I just have to read, and this is no exception; though, I didn't have a close dog pal until I was an adult. Don't know what it is about dogs, but they certainly like to crawl inside your heart and stay!
Thank you for sharing this memory with us. I can tell Bubbadog was very well loved! Good luck in the contest! -
Dogs really are "mans best friend"...using the term "man" lightly of course. I remember my first encounter with a dog, my grandmother's dog, Mulligan. He was already old when I met him and he died only a few years into our friendship. Dogs really do have a way of moving into your heart. They're so sweet and loving, watchful, protective. Well I'm sure I could go on about dogs all evening, so I'll hush about them now.
Welcome to AllPoetry and good luck in the contest!

This is wonderful, a poem from the heart. Our pets become so much a part of us. This reminds me of my black lab, Jake, who died at the age of 10 years, a heart attack. He had been diagnosed with a heart condition only about a week before he died. But he was such a precious friend, protective (if the occasion called for it), friendly, obedient, loved kids..I could go on and on....that was in 1983. And a couple of years ago both of my cats died within a few weeks of each other, one was 16 years old, the other 7 years...and I'd had both since they were very young kittens. Believe me when I say I know just how you feel...
You've written such a good poem about your Bubba
Good luck in the contest and welcome to allpoetry

Oh my!! This is just precious
The love we have for our pets is sometimes just like the love we hold for our “human” loved ones. They have a way of stealing our hearts without us even realizing it. I love the poem
Best wishes in the contest and welcome to Ap
