I sit in this cold airport chair
Of an unappealing off white color
Awaiting your arrival impatiently
Swinging my legs and looking out the window
Biting my fingernails and chipping off the polish
I can't wait to look into your eyes again
I haven't seen you since after high school graduation
Which was easily five years ago
I left to go to college and you hated this town
But we kept in touch, I missed you (so much)
When we drifted apart I cried to my friends
I wondered what had happened to us
But just last week you found my number
And called my apartment to check up on me
Your high school sweetheart with curly hair
We'd all thought you'd forgotten about me
When you moved again but to the other side of the country
And got that busy auto-repair job
The overhead announcer lets me know
Your plane has landed and you're coming out
I quickly check my make-up and tug at my blouse
Take a deep breath and stand up
I turn slowly and search for your face
I laugh when I see you finally
You're basically jogging down the terminal
You're pushing through the rest of the passengers
Bumping into a couple of them with your bag
I know you see me, your expression shows me that
Your face is lit and your eyes shine
The smile you wear melts my heart
When we come face to face
Our eyes meet and time stands still
You take me in your arms
For what you used to call "Hello Hugs"
Soon we're lost in conversation
As we leave the airport
Late that night I lay in bed
I can't sleep and I know you can't either
I can hear you tossing and turning
Maybe the living room couch was a bad idea
I put on my bathrobe and head to the kitchen
I can feel your eyes on me as I walk past
The clock reads 2:47 in the morning
You shuffle in droopy eyed a few steps behind me
You rub your eyes the same way you did long ago
Then you look hard at me and your mouth forms beautiful words
"You're a gorgeous sight"
I know you mean every word you say
You take me in your arms and hold me
I then remember how safe I felt in your embrace
You tilt my face toward yours and look deep in my eyes
Tell me how you've missed me and how great it is to see me
Kiss me light and sweet but make it full of passion
For one night, take me back
For the rest of your visit
We grow close all over again
And my old feelings rush back in
The week has passed by so quickly
And it's time for you to go back home
I don't want you to leave
We get to the airport and they're calling for your flight
We make plans for me to visit you soon
Then it's time for you to board the plane
A big hug and you turn to leave
As you walk down the terminal, you turn
You blow me a kiss and the same sad tear rolls down our cheeks
It was so nice to see you again
