I Know What Love Is

All you did was take a little time
You had no need for second guesses or
Unnecessary burdens

You knew exactly what you wanted
And exactly how to get it
Nothing has ever stood in your way

Through much heartache and sorrow
You came to the other side
Not needing anyone but yourself

But things have changed in your world
There are those who need you
And though you won't admit it...

You need us too
With us, you are a complete man
I can see it in your eyes, no need for words
And because of you
I know what love is
You can see it in my eyes, no need for words...

This is for my daddy. I Wanna Know What Love Is by Foreigner reminds me of him because he used to listen to it when I was younger. It's not my best piece of work, but I wrote from the heart...

  • this is incredibly sad.
i think writes that are written straight from the heart are often the best written because they're just the writer's heart poured into a poem.

    good luck.

A father's love is what we all need to know. Too often any more it seems Dad's are forgotten and they are pushed out of the lives of their kids. No matter how bad life may be having a Dad to protect the family is very important, it shows his love and comitment.
This is a great write. Too bad it didn't win a prize.

How wonderful a child's love for her father. Beautifully written, my dear friend. You may say that this is not one of your best works, but you have clearly shown that this came from your heart. It pleases me that you are writing poetry about different forms of love..

    Your friend,
    Kain

So touching, Mammy!!! Awwwwwwwwwww... Even if I didn't already know how much you love your Daddy, this would have shown me. I love how much your words seem like lyrics. Have you written a tune?

The repetition in the last stanza, and the last stanza itself, was the most beautiful and my favorite part. The idea of someone showing you what love is makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I can really see that this is written from the heart...

Nice job, Mammy!!! Good write!!! HUGS!!!!!
