On promoting and comments...

I would just like to write something really quick, not that anybody who needs to read this will.

I would like to state how frustrating it is to try to hold a conversation in the chatterbox, simply because there are always people promoting themselves.  While it doesn't happen too much after they have been told to stop, there really is a very simple way to solve their problems that probably never even crosses their mind.  If they would only comment on other peoples poems, they would get PLENTY of feedback in return.

Yes, this site is here for people to post their poetry and get constructive feedback in order to improve their work, or for some simply to share their poetry.  Yes, it's a free site, but the comments you get really are NOT free.  YOU have a responsibility to comment on other people's work as well.  Taking 5 minutes of your free time, especially for those that are constantly complaining about being "bored" to comment on another poets pieces and making their day should NOT be a problem.

One really only deserves comments if one takes the initiative to give them to others.  It is not meant to be a one way street, this is meant to be a site that allows poets to communicate and get constructive criticism, but if everyone is waiting for someone else to post on their pieces before they reply back, it will never happen will it?

Take the initiative, comment on others pieces.  You'll be surprised at how much you get back.

Author notes

For those of you that are new, or want comments.. I hope this doesn't apply to you.

It's true that people don't want to hear real comments, but there's usually at least SOMETHING to be encouraging about on pieces. And reading ANYTHING has to elicit some sort of response, unless one is dead. ^^; It's better to try and resond, and hope people will accept the criticism, especially when it's asked for.

One doesn't need to enter contests, and that's not really what this is about. It's about how people expect (or beg) everyone to comment on their pieces, but don't think they should have to do anything in return.

But as I can see, you comment on other peoples pieces, and for that, I thank you. ^^ (but who am I to talk?)

Well I'll tell ya...many people here don't want to hear true comments or critiques I should say. Some people feel bad about telling someone that their poem is good when in actuality it isn't so instead they click off and say nothing to avoid hurting peoples feelings. That is why they waste valuable clicks in the features box.

Or some people don't understand the better writers poems so they don't answer for that reason.

I understand your frustration, but this seems to be the life of a writer here at AP.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

The only points I ever get is either from commenting or from applause. I rarely even enter contests except by request.
