My Big Brother

Hair a black as ebony,
Eyes as blue as mine,
Mama told me once.
Born too soon,
gasping for air with lungs that were barely there.
God called you home.

I too was born premature two years later,
but my lungs took in the air.
Mama pointed out your resting place out to me once long ago.
That small patch of ground where you rest between our great grand parents.
I imagine that I could have been laying beside you, except God had differant plans for me.

Although I never knew you, big brother I have missed you in my life.
I can only imagine what you would have been like if you had lived.
Now I suppose you watch over me and the rest of our siblings from heaven.

Author notes

my big brother passed away three days after he was born. So I never met him, but some times my mother talks about him. I only wish there were pictures so I could see what he looked like. That and I know that he has no headstone so it seems like he has been forgotten.

Thank you. I have five other siblings and it was really fun growingup. But I can't help but wonder what might have been.

That was beautiful, i feel for you. I have never lost a sibling myself but i have ten so i can only imagine how terrible that must be.

I know how you feel on this. But the pictures don't help, a least not for me. My sister was six when she died and I have a picture of her at four holding a dollie. She looks like an ordinary child and I have a hard time thinking of her that way.

This was well written, I first thought of a twin, a great tribute to the brother you never knew. May he continue to watch and guide you from above. ...RED
