Destiny?

See, I don't believe in destiny,
I've always said it's shit.
No, I don't believe in destiny,
But maybe this is it.

Now I know I've never even got to hold your hand,
But a look and then a smile and I just understand.
There's some kind of plan,
And now maybe it has finally come to rest on me--maybe it found me.

Well, I don't believe in destiny,
But something made this right.
Yeah, I don't believe in destiny,
But I sure miss you tonight.

I guess maybe we just have to trust the voice inside,
That says sometimes it's better not to run and hide.
Are there some things you just know?
Does a voice inside tell you to hold on, and never let go?

'Cause I really think I don't believe in destiny,
But there's things I've been dreaming of.
There's just no way I could believe in destiny,
But I know I always will believe in love.

Do you hear it play?  Such a sacred sound
Or is it only me that hears this song when you're around?
With a wish fufilled, a whisper of love and a promise...
I think I've been found...

And I've always said I don't believe in destiny,
But I sometimes think it believes in me.
And now I wonder, could it be?
Maybe destiny's the one that gave you to me.

Author notes

This was inspired by the song "I Can't Ever Get Enough Of You" by Darren Hayes.

destiny, after reading your poem and feeling everything you put into your poem I do think it is possible to believe in Destany once again. You write with such an inner strength and beauty. It is also very easy to feel the magic of your poetic heart. Thank you so much for whisking me away....

    enjoyed the read

Iv'e missed you being around my poetry friend...this is a super write and could make for some performance poetry or even a song...it is so real, honest, straightforward and brutal almost in the way you question your beliefs...I loved it and nicely rhymed too...~Lilac~

    good job

This is a great write. No, I don't believe in destiny, at least not in the sense you mean it here, but you've written a great love letter anyway.

this is so sweet. i loved the lines "well i don't beleive in destiny, but something made this right. yeah, i don't beleive in destiny, but i sure miss you tonight" thats really cute. it's kind of like someone being saying they dont beleive in something but admitting that maybe they do. obviously youre a little indesisive.

Wow, this poem is similar to the poem you just read of mine...odd I'd pick this one...maybe it's destiny? lol.

But yeah, somethings we don't need to question, and one of those things is love. While I consider myself a logical person, in matters of the heart I'd rather just believe, not matter how illogical it may seem.

So yes, maybe destiny is behind your love.

    Totally Awesome

    Jenna...
This is totally awesome girl!!! I'm not sure there is a destiny either... but I do know that there someone up there to guide us. He gives us choices to make... what the outcome of those choices are is up to us.
This is an awesome write hon... great job!!! I'll have to go read the lyric sometime... but I'm sure you did it justice. Love and hugs...

    Excellent, needs work on meter

Sounds to me like a song coming on. Needsd a little work on the meter, on the scansion, or you'll have to stuffit into the music like bad Hip Hop. I never believed in destiny or fate until I found my daughter. She was adopted out; in those days it was either illegal abortion, adoption or allowing my child to be raised by an insane person. I was brought up in a totaly abnormal disfunctional family and she was brought up in a loving and very ordinary family. I could go on but the differences between her upbringing and mine are enormous. Yet she is so much like me it's scary. I had always believed that you are what you and the world make of you but now I'm not so sure. Maybe Forest Gump had it right when he said that maybe it's both things.
