the rose blossom
loses a petal
as I convalesce
I wonder "next summer
shall I see another"?

Fantastic
This tanka is very much applicable to me and struck a resounding chord the first time I read it. Five years ago I was sent home from the hospital and my near and dear ones told I would not live to see the new year. Fortunately they failed to tell me and I just kept on living. This year I had to return (about the same time as you) and I am having more problems convalescing than I would like. Thanks for sharing this absolutely fantastic work. Stu -
Excellent
After illness, comes convalescence and too much time on one's hands
The birth of this Tanka reflects on a moment of sadness and concern for the future but it also holds the future in the bloom of the Rose . Be well my friend and smell the Roses as they blossom in their magnificence

we shall see what will come... it gets hotter the more and more you wither in your air conditioned, you well tempered climate of a friend that makes it unwelcoming outside, in the heat that makes your pedals too hot to bike through this swell summer storm... its summer... it has to be hot... live in it or die without it...
boom boom sis... RAH... gods bless ye...

Why else would you be around Andrew? Personally I'd like to see you catch me up so you'll see many more new petals burst into bloom.
A very melancholy Tanka Andrew, understandable but the beauty of your work will stand the test of time – just like you! – and I am unanimous (Mrs Slocombe, remember?)

There's a lot more in the future for you my friend... clearly. Otherwise, you'd be gone now!? Right?...
Take care, get well..... and stay out of the pubs!

Lovely
The roots are in the ground, feed them and they will flower next summer. This is the message I thought of, the flower is like a poem ( only one of them that the writer has produced and needs only to be fed to write another). I love the roses in my garden , they are old and very hardy. Thank you for the many thoughts in such few words. -
YES!!!!!
You will see many more rose blossoms!!!
Your tankas are almost always a bit sad, but this one is more so.
I hope you get back into good health soon.
We miss seeing you here!
You will see all your little girls grow up and get married and be a grandpa. I have decided this!
Here is a convalescent hug!

This is probably one of the saddest tankas I have ever read. This could be speaking of the flowers as well as the human life itself and the fact that the human form might not see another flower blossom is indeed very heartbreaking. Just remember that even thought the rose petal whither and dry... they do recover and they do bloom again, giving off that sweet aroma as always. New life bursts forth after much rain and wintertime has past. Be well my friend.

I know you really are good at those. I like the images and technique you use. This is impressive.

next moment, day or summer wil always be a wondering surprise therefore always apealing to us in way of sadness not knowing if we may wittness it. It is that feeling that it brings this tanka, at least to me. Kicking back all to opportunistic feelings, let's enjoy the beauty of the moment
