About Love....

Did I miss a chance
To make a friend today?
Did I walk away
Without a backward glance?

Did I hear a cry for help
Pretending not to hear?
Did I shed a tear
But only for myself?

When I feel love deep inside,
Do I ask for nothing more?
Would I open my door
If a beggar stood outside?

If my friend lay gravely ill,
Would I try to ease his pain?
If I had nothing to gain,
Would I pay his bill?

How much love is enough?
Is the supply unending?
Without love for mending,
Life would be too tough.

Is love your endless quest?
Just do the best you can
To help your fellow man…
God will do the rest.

These are some great questions we all need to ask ourselves on occasion. I love your final line. While we may not love "enough" at times, there is a great comfort knowing God will always love us best. Thank you so much for sharing and good luck in the contest.

These questions made me think about what I have been doing lately in my life to help those around me, and the answer is saddening. I have been striving to fulfill my needs and wants, when I should be reaching out to those around me who need what I have in excess. Thank you for the conviction, Maureen! Best of luck to you.

I am always asking myself whether I am doing my best - the better you are, the better you want to be, and the harsher the failures appear. Questions like these are meant to trouble and inspire, and you do this excellently. Best of luck!

    Dear Maureen,

You have written so many beautiful poems that it must have been difficult for you to choose one that you considered your very best. I think this is a worthy choice. It carries a message which, although expressed in a personal way, is universal and abiding.
    Good luck in this contest.

I like your last stanza. ....Do your best;...God will do the rest...
So true. It's hard to measure how much help God wants us to give and how much he has planned on his own. We must be cautious to not enable people but as long as we love as Jesus loved...God will do the rest.
    Excellent poem

That's awesome and so true! You're right-so often do we forget to love our best. Even though, its so hard to remember to love like God in our world, we should remember every day and put forth effort to think not always of ourselves, but of others, and to love and try to reach out to the people around us. You never know if you just missed a chance to make a best friend so its best to try to make friends with everyone! I like your poem alot, its really inspiring.

This is breathtaking, Maureen. The background, the music and most of all the beautiful, inspiring message. 'Greater love hath no man than he lay down his life for his friends'. I try to live by that. Giving of yourself to others breeds fulfillment. When you feel empty, give away what you need most in your own life. It will come back triplefold. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful message.

Your rhyme scheme...That pattern is incredibly difficult for me. You made it flow easily, and the background is perfect.

Deo Gratias: Thank God. This is beautifully inspired work. The TRUE spirit of Christmas. Hat is off swept to the side, bowing, I say 'Bravo' -tj-

This is a great poem. It has a wonderful messasge that people should listen to. I loved the last two stanzas. They really made the poem great. I loved the background, as well, and the ryhming scheme. This is, again, a great poem. Just beautiful.
