Echoes (sonnet)

Our music sheds the tears of my spirit
The wounded sound of my soul repeating
Your siren's song, I can only fear it
My injured heart slowly stops its beating

The rhythm brings a painful memory
Of our invective exchanged in malice
The loneliness of our lost harmony
Our melody just hardened the callous

And as our song winds down to a ending
Our slow-dancing embrace just falls apart
The silence cries for some kind of mending
Lamenting with the whispers of my heart

Echoes remain of our song together
Hoping to find one to play forever
