I met her in the autumn
My brother and I were hiking
Or were we just 'pretending to'?
Well, I don’t remember
We were 'hiking' in the forest
The trees were on fire
Incarnadine, gold and russet
Mirroring the carpet beneath our feet
The air was chilly
With the farewell of summer
But not yet the grip of winter
Thick and ancient in the old forest
She was swimming
In a lake that was mirrored her grey eyes
Pools of silence and beauty
My heart quite nearly stopped beating
She came up for air
And was quite startled
My brother fell backwards
Taken with surprise and embarrassment
I just stood there
In awe
She swam to shore
Watching us with concern
She pulled a towel around herself
And I was lost to her beauty
Black hair wet and long down her back
Eyes as grey as the morning sky
Her skin was pale
Like parchment
Her hair was the ink
Painting elegance
Her name was Liadan
I mumbled my name
And an apology
My brother did the same
She smiled
Her lips gentle
And the slightest color of pink
Against the white of her flesh
I saw her a year later
And I fell deeper in love
She had captured my soul
With her beauty and kindness
Years later
After a tragedy
We met again
But to make a long story short
She is now my wife
Beautiful and compassionate
She gave birth to our son
Who took after his mother in looks
Liadan,
I can't imagine a better human being
My brother and I were hiking
Or were we just 'pretending to'?
Well, I don’t remember
We were 'hiking' in the forest
The trees were on fire
Incarnadine, gold and russet
Mirroring the carpet beneath our feet
The air was chilly
With the farewell of summer
But not yet the grip of winter
Thick and ancient in the old forest
She was swimming
In a lake that was mirrored her grey eyes

My heart quite nearly stopped beating

What a wonderful story of how you two met. Loved the imagery it created. Love like yours will blossom again, even after a setback as the loss of Sophia Lea must be, even if it may seem difficult at the moment. I love my wife as much as you have described you love Liadan, and our love will never die, no matter what happens. I know that if we lost our son, I would be devastated for eternity, but Monica's love would keep me going... Thanks for sharing your story, Draven!

What a beautiful, touching story. Like a fairytale. How wonderful the love the 2 of you share is. My wish is that the two of you will always be as happy as you are today.

Aw, welcome to AllPoetry. I'm pretty new myself. Actually, in response to this, Liadan (my wife) wrote her own..."correcting" the story.

Hi, I am new to this site and I just read your poem on how you met your wife. What a beautiful tribute to her and your love to her. Great imagery. Only one thing wrong...I wanted to hear more. LOL! You should have made that long story, long. Or I guess you could fill us all in with a part 2. I just love to hear how people met, a hopeless romantic I am. Thanks for sharing and congrats on your son.

fate as love
what an Ode to love , a beauty of verse and soul mate ,
water and nature had captured you , and love followed fate ..
imagery so metaphoric , was in a dream , caught so deftly ..
the hand of this poet tied to his soul . -
I think this is such a wonderful writ.e I think that it shows great expression. I am glad you had the chance to meet her. She seems like a wonderful woman. Best of wishes with the son and the contest!

Draven...that picture makes me look so fat. No, I'm not serious.
But that's not the most flattering picture out there...
But thank you Miss Wanda for your beautiful comment. Don't worry, I'll get him back with a picture of him that he hates. ~Snicker~ Anyway, thanks honey, this was lovely.
...By the way...you told me you were taking a hike...so the truth comes out, hm?
Love you all
