Everything’s going according to plan
I’ve had one contact with the man
He said he’ll get whatever he can.
He’d arrived with a very large caravan
of camels that had halted for the night.
I think the prospects are looking bright.
He’ll be able to deliver the goods all right.
I feel we’re beginning to see the light
at the end of the tunnel now.
He looked to me like a good-natured guy
with eyes as blue as the distant sky.
I don’t think what he said is a lie.
He knows that he would die like a fly
if he tried to swindle us.
What have I got myself into now?
Where’d it go wrong, considering how,
to reform myself I took a vow?
You’ve ruined my career. I’ve taken a bow.
Maybe if I’d had a wife
I would never have entered upon this life.
But then I’d have lots of other strife,
feeling always at my throat the knife.
You and I go back a long way,
together since the first school day.
But then you went and got carried away.
And I got pulled along with you!

I would love to see you write without attempting to rhyme at all. I'm not sure if all of you poetry is like this or not, but it does seem as if your rhyme is slightly forced. This is interesting, and I'm not quite sure what to think about it... simply because it seems very personal perhaps.

Great to see you are writing again. Understood first two verses, but then sudden change in the events. I've been wondering what happened between. Why sudden disappointment?
