It takes a special person to wear a soldiers uniform
they live in our great cities and live near fields of corn
Our military can be proud they are the bravest and the best
they fight far away from home in a fight for freedom's quest
Soldiers fought hard in the desert, battled storms of sand
now these fine brave soldiers will lend a helping hand
They are our mothers and daughters, sisters and wives
serving in the military affects so many lives
It's our fathers and brothers, husbands and sons
they all sacrifice so much till freedom has been won
Sailors sail the seven seas their homeland not in sight
sailing for their country they sail for freedoms fight
When our troops are far from home always keep in touch
a letter, card or email would help so very much
Stop by and see their loved ones they may be all alone
if they live too far away call them on the phone
With loved ones gone for so long they need our support too
so help out in any way it's the little things we can do
When you see a soldier or sailor stop and shake his hand
without them freedom would not ring throughout our great land
Proudly fly Old Glory on your front porch or pole each day
at night say a prayer for them as you kneel and pray
When our fine soldiers do return there will be much to do
for all the time away from home thanks and God bless you
they live in our great cities and live near fields of corn

Author notes
God bless our servicemen and women. They sacrifice so much so we may live in comfort and free from a war on our own shores. Telling them thank you is the least we can do.
God bless our troops and keep them from harm. I hope they come home soon.

This was such a pleasure to write. My heart has always been with all the servicemen and women of this counrty My heart goes out to them. I have one grandson who may leave for Iraq by the end of the year and a son that leaves with his submarine the end of the year for 6 months. My heart will bereak when they leave. God will Bless them and keep them safe. God Bless all our troops.

Great
This poem is great. So many people take this sort of thing for granted. They don't understand what these soldiers really give up for their country. -
Sandy, that is such a beautiful poem. I enjoyed reading you masterpiece. Lots of love!

Sandy...
That was just wonderful, beautiful in fact. Everytime I see a soldier, were ever we may meet, I proudly shake their hands and say thank you to them. Thank you to you for sharing this poem. ~Donna~ -
Sandy - very well expressed. I particularly liked the last stanze. I had to wait a day to re-read it before responding. Let's just say I'm honored, as a Soldier, and as a citizen. Thank you deeply.

Wonderful.....We sure have alot of soldiers to thank and we can do it one by one...We should all stop and shake hands with them and let them know we care! I keep in touch with my brother over their who can read my e-mails daily. He may not right back often cause he is busy but at least when I get a notice saying he received it I know he knows I am thinking of him. Neither jobs are easy..theirs or ours waiting for their return but we know what is worth it is our freedom. Thanks for sharing well done!! xo
