We will not yield today.

Honour lies in saving the soul
That seeks shelter at our door.
Why do you raise such a furore?

The partridge has as much right
as you to live, Oh! Men of might!
Purge your noble souls of spite.

Goats, cattle, bushels of wheat
We shall gift, if you retreat.
Why insist on partridge meat?

When malice grips a man's heart,
The edifice of reason falls apart
and killing is extolled as art.

Man's heroism does not lie
in slaying birds on the sly.
For your prey, we are ready to die.

We will meet you on battlegrounds
amidst drum beats and bugle sounds.
By a sacred duty we are bound.

We will not yield to force today.
Let rivers of blood cross our way.
Our courage will not go astray.

Strength lies not in a lance or a spear
but in the conscientious heart's lack of fear
when in the war field, death looms near.

Victory or defeat let the Gods decide.
The call of conscience we shall abide.
For, righteousness is on our side.

Honour lies in saving the soul
That seeks shelter at our door.
We will not yield to force today.
Not even an inch, come what may.

Whoo, that was brilliant. I can't stand people who like to hunt for sport, hope that doesn't make me too close-minded. anyways, this poem is just beautiful. You always write such luxorious and gorgeous things.

An interesting story complimented by your very well written poem.

Sadly, I can't imagine anyone going to such extremes for a partridge these days ...

Interesting philosophical problem. I hate to say it, but I'd choose the lives of those 400 over the partridge, but that's quite beyond the point. I see the significance, but the divinity escapes me. Perhaps I'm too steaped in Jungian theory. I do, however, agree about the scion and the buck. They should not see themselves as above the law. Its a horrible pretension at it's worst.

Be that as it may, this is a mighty poem. Beautifully crafted and well argued. Technically, it has a marvelous flow and a very sophisticated vocabulary. I'm dully impressed. Write on Krishnaa, write on.

    Cheers,

You seem so educated. Your poem was, at first, a bit of a mystery to me but your explanation answered all of my questions. I believe that it is important to write on current events, especially those we find important. You did a wonderful job in this work of describing an event and voicing your opinion on an issue. I, too, believe that the liberties that the rich take are wrong. I hope that you take your art to an even higher level and fight for this noble cause.
    Thank you,
    ~Alice~

Beautifully written on a sad event. Thank you for adding in your comment box. I have trouble with animal killing also. In my small town in Arkansas, USA hunting is a big sport and the local news paper runs pictures of hunters with big smiles holding onto their kill in one hand and their gun in the other. It makes me ill. If you say anything against it your bombarded with reasons why animals has to be killed off. Well I'm sorry I don't agree for everything has a right to live.
Thank you for posting this write.
    All the best,
    Amanda
