Highway madness

The squeaking parrots make so much noise
No wonder, the sleepy hawk is jolted awake.
It swoops down on its shrieking prey.

Blazing horns, break-neck speed,
Screeching tyres and a burst of pride
Last for a few seconds
Leaving behind on indifferent roads
twisted cars and mangled frames.

On its perch, the hawk waits
(and so does Death in its abode)
for another fool to catch its attention.

Driving in India is to be taken seriously for the benefit of the citizens... there's no discipline... the volume of traffic is increasing and so are the accidents... even the ones who drive carefully get victimised by the incompetent reckless drivers... all they have to do is follow the children story of two goats crossing over a narrow bridge...
as for the poem, you're a true poet krishna, you don't spare any chance that drives your muse... I liked the way you used hawk metaphorically.... good work...

wow. such a different theme in poetry. I found myself focused on the birds, then on the road, then back to the bird. To say the least, your intent in this piece worked wonderfully in capturing our attention and proving a visual point through succinct words.

    A very nicely written piece.

ohhh....this is really creative and intresting - I love the symbolism which I generally don't care for nor do well myself, but this is awesome, you never lose the idea and it's easy to follow - well written and descriptive - this really is nice work!
    thanks for sharing

The other day, I watched a hawk pouncing down on some boisterous parrots. They made so much noise that I thought they invited disaster. On the highways, people drive recklessly almost as if they were courting death. The hawk here symbolises death. Thanks for your comments.

Comparing hungry hawks to a bad car crash...I think that's quite true and smart. You have made a clever connection. I am always a nervous driver...sigh...
