4th of July
You’re not going to like this one little bit.
A 4th of July poem written by a Brit.
One who has read the history of those early Mayflowers
Who started a land that should have been ours!
A list of place names will make it quite clear
Your land was peopled by us over here.
I know there were other nations as well.
And they’ll all have their own tale to tell.
But it was my own Head of State
That your colonists grew to hate.
After those events back in 73
Altered the course of our history
Then after three eventful years
And times that brought our king to tears.
President John Hancock signed his name
And invited those others to do the same.
The second congress had done their bit
And promulgated a mighty writ.
Properly called a Declaration
It signalled the start of your great nation.
And now I am called upon to say
Happy Birthday to the U S of A
Also to Adam and Ellie too
Happy Birthday to both of you.

Thanks for the comment Steve. I feel more in tune with the 14th than the 4th of July [Bastille Day is also my birthday].

When I was serving in Berlin in 1973, our American cousins invited us over to their air base at Templehof for July 4th celebrations. We had hot dogs and burgers and played soft ball - it was "dead gooder"!

Thank you Ellie.
I am sorry I used references you didn't understand but I had assumed you and Adam were Americans like Poem Prince. I forgot that AP is a really international family. Hey are you real twins or AP twins?
Having seen your author's page I understand why your time is limited. All those languages at school. Wow.
Anyway thanks for your comment.

I don't know a lot about the fourth of July except its my birthdya and an important day in America because we don't study American History in Ireland until secondary school so I won't be studying it for 3 years but I still thought this poem was good. I bet my Dad will understand. I'll get him to explain it to me.
thanks again for entering
