If I met you on a crowded road
Looking haggard in a crumpled dress,
Wilting under a cumbersome load,
Forlorn, like a damsel in distress,
I would invite you to my house.
At the doorstep, greet you with a rose.
Rest assured, there would surely be
warm water to relax your weary feet,
few cookies and some Darjeeling tea,
A bed with a freshly laundered sheet.
Your beloved pets would be fed too
with a delectable, vegetable stew.
I was a stranger once in a strange town.
As I shivered in the freezing cold,
Friendless, hungry, tired, and down,
Few crooks eyed my precious gold.
Out of the gloom, stepped out a knight,
His heart touched by a stranger's plight.
Food, shelter, compassion and kindness
he gave me in such ample measure.
With a smile, he erased my stress.
Meeting him was such a pleasure!
That act of kindness, I hope to repay
by offering you a place to stay.
For, kindness can only be repaid
By a comparable act of kindness.
In gold, its worth cannot be weighed.
Its value, my dear, is boundless.

Aaaaaw... this is an awesome poetry... I can't believe that I inspired you... Krishna, poet of your calibre doesn't need an inspiration... your work is so commendable and you're the most favourite poet of mine... your poem is far more superior… you know how to play with words and the treasure of vocabulary is your forte… rhyming is beautifully done and control of meter comes across so naturally… Krishna you can be my teacher anytime…
thanks a lot…

Beautifully done and it reminds me of the saying "be kind to every stranger , for you will never know when you might be entertaining an angel"

Great job, very insightful... it's good to know of people that are still unconditionally caring
-
This a a brilliant and very entertaining piece to read. I also like the rhymes, they are great and dont force the poem to be something it wasnt meant to. Thanks for sharing this wonderfull piece of poetry

Now, where was I?
This is indeed an excellent piece. Very thoughtful...which to me seems to be a rarity in poetry these days. Very consistent rhyme scheme...you never seem to be rhyming merely for the sake of rhyming. It's very subtle and very effective that rhyme scheme of yours.
On a whole, a technically and emotionally delightful poem.

Certainly one of the best writes on this site. This is also like the hymn being sung in catholic churches, it's called "Whatsoever you do" and then it goes..."to the least of my brothers..." Well written , great rhyme and flow. wonderful job.

This was a pleasant read and a delightful story.
I suppose teaching, or at least relating values,
with telling a good story will never go out of style.
It's nice to see that there are still many people in the
world who are willing to give kindess without any expectation
of reward. -
Very kewl piece. I really loved the warm cozy feeling to it, as well as the imagery it invoked. It has an appealing allure to it, that says "hey sit down, enjoy" A great piece!
-
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. (Will write more detailed comment later).
