Hydrosia, the water- breathing dragon

You've heard of fire breathing dragons. Well, this is the tale of Hydrosia, who was very different from those.
When she was but an egg, a Dragon-tamer tried to steal her from her nest, so he could raise her as a pet, but her mother saw him and attacked, The dragon-tamer dropped the egg into the sea.
Dragon eggs are usually kept near fire, so that when they hatch, the young inherit fire breathing, but Hydrosia hatched in the sea, so instead of fire, water shot out of her mouth.

All the other dragons disliked Hydrosia, because she kept putting out their fires with her water breath. "Why can't you breathe fire, like a real dragon?" They all snarled at her. "how are you going to cook your food with water-breath" Hydrosia replied "I like my food raw, I don't need to cook it". "Real dragons breathe fire" the other dragons replied "if you can't breathe fire, then you don't belong with us", so Hydrosia left the Dragons den.

Hydrosia was miserable and lonely. she had no friends. none of the other dragons wanted anything to do with her, and she didn't want anything to do with them. then one day she say a bunch of people trying to put out a house fire. "I can help with that", and with a mighty rush of water, she doused the flames out. "How can you do that?" said the fire-fighters, "you are a dragon. Dragons cause fires, they don't put them out!"
Hydrosia answered "this one does, and that's not all. I can irrigate crops, water gardens, and wash down houses too."
The people all muttered for a moment, then their leader said "well you're certainly more friendly that most dragons we've met, and handier too, would you like to be our new fire chief? we can pay you in fish".
Hydosia loved fish, so she quickly accepted the offer, and lived among the people for many generations
One day someone asked if she was sad about being shunned by all the other dragons, but Hydosia replied " It's not about fitting in where others expect you to, its about finding where you fit in as you are"

    An Awesome dragon tale.

My only regret about this story is that it ended too soon. I was so engrossed in it, I wanted more. I'm so glad Hydrosia found a place to belong. It reminds me of how my dragon, Nero who was shunned by other dragons because of her physical deformities. He could also breathe water instead of fire. This was really really great. Thank you for your entry and good luck to ya. Avril
