Our Bubblegum Nativity Scene

Again, I wonder
why I let you near.
Your bubblegum covered hair
the color of straw.

Dried praise and crusty remnants--
their broken hearts
sloppily sewn together,
when you'd spend hours
on your pants.

Could you not even bother
a moment
on my feelings?

I guess
I was just an afterthought.
Pretentious--
I can't even remember the fire
that led us here.

Was there ever a fire?
Were you ever
as sweet
as the sticky breath
you love to chew?

To think
I was addicted
to you.
