From a Daughter to Her Father

I remember the days
when I danced on your shoes
With good night hugs
and kisses too
Little white flowers and
Dancing bears
Stories and laughter
All of those things

I remember the days
Of loud music and bands
of makeup and cloths just a little to tight
Of dances and proms
and beautiful ball gowns
Standing there on graduation day

I remember the day
That I had to move out
of hugs and kisses
and long goodbye's
A call from me every once in a while
Mostly when money was short

I remember the day
when I realized
That a man like you is hard to find
And on this day
The best memory I have
Is of you my father
who has always been there

Author notes

I wrote this for fathers day because i know in my busy life.. that i don't tell my father how much i love him.

This is very true that we do not feel it important to express our deep feelings for our parents in our daily course of life. But we know it deep in our heart that there they are who have silently dedicated their everything to make us successful.Such relations are not based on give and take kind of philosophy.Daughters perhaps are the most lovable creatures on Earth who remember their father for His great contribution towards them. Thanks for entering this poem in my contest and I wish you all the best.

Aww, this almost made me cry! The first two lines made me smile, because I used to dance on my daddy's shoes when I was a wee girl. I wrote a poem for my folks just before Father's Day this year, and I sent my daddy's portion to him as part of his present. He cried, apparently. Does your daddy know about this piece? It was really touching, you should let him read it...

    Outstanding!!

This poem has touched my heart in such a memorable way and thank you so much for sharing it here. My daughter is now gone off to England, now a married young lady and so in love with her husband. Funny how the magic place i used to hold moved aside when he came into our lives. He’s a wonderful person, has to be to marry my daughter, and the memories of walking her down the aisle will day forever but off all the memories i hold of her the best came in the evening when i tucked her in and she would say “i love you daddy”…well, it still grips my heart and fills my eyes.. A wonderful set of memories thanks for taking the time to share them with others. Blessings and best wishes, ~richard

I'll bet your father had tears when he read this. My daughter wrote a similar poem for me and it brought me to tears. This is a beautiful tribute to your father.

    A beautiful Poem

This was a lovely poem Sarrah, your memories from childhood are how they should be,with a loving caring father, all happy memories, you were upset to read the type of childhood I had,I too can get upset at reading about happy childhoods. That was all I wanted, but it was not to be.Your father will feel very proud to know his daughter holds him in such high esteem.Thank you for your caring comments ,Take care, Moon Shadow.
