Mia

Under the skin
she lurks
girl that could
tear me apart
I swallow
she breathes
as pain rolls
over my toungue
and she claws
at the inside
of my throat
she pulls
my hair
and swears
she will
make
me
pay

Author notes

I had a very dear friend who died 8 years ago due to a heart damaged by years of anorexia and bulimia.  We all tried to help her, but although her recovery had been going on for a while, the damage was enough to kill her.  So many girls and boys think of this as a lifestyle, but the damage cannot be reversed.  I read "Blue" by Invisible Poet.

Thank you for sharing about your friend. I liked this poem because of how it fell. There weren't very many words, yet you managed to convey the sadness, abnd self-destruction very well. I like the personification of bulimia as "Mia" and the vengeance. You creatively show how it is a battle, and the eating disorder is strong enough to act as an external force such as another person. Thank you for your Submission.

Wow, I really liked this poem. one of my dearest friend's died of an eating disorder 6 months ago. It killed to know the fact that she went away, because her ex boyfriend said that she was to fat,and it wasnt true at all. Keep up the excellent work of ur poetry.

This is quite restrained considering what you must be feeling - it's sort of brief and chaotic and destructive...reflective of an eating disorder in some ways, I suppose. And frightening, too...I'm sorry to hear about your friend X

This is a very intense write. I have never had any disorders like this either and I would think that this would sum it up. I also lost a good friend to anorexia and yes it does make sure that you never try it! Great write, very deep.

No worries about that... losing a friend to bulimia and anorexia will kill any chance of having one yourself.

I had a friend who had an eating disorder, well, she was in recovery, but I read and tried to understand just how I could be non-judgmental and help. I'm glad you've never had an eating disorder...if you start I shall come find you and kick you in the butt!
