OASIS #2
There's a place in many a city
Where only the tourists go.
The locals just can't stand them.
They're only there for show.
They celebrate the millennium;
Or some such special date;
That means little to the locals
And even less to those who rule our fate.
They're really built to con us
That the nation's alright now.
The economy must be healthy
To afford such a sacred cow.
Flashy metal bridges and massive Ferris wheels.
The structure is irrelevant.
They're there but quite unwanted.
Like a man made white elephant.
I know there's always been memorials;
Towers of metal and statues of stone.
But nothing as monumentally stupid
As that blasted London dome!
Most of them were privately funded.
By donations, subscriptions and such.
When it's your own hand in your pocket.
Things don't cost half as much.
But now it's all government funded.
Or it comes straight from the rates.
And the way they spend our money;
I hope there's no more special dates!

I think Wanabat would be too careful to do that
but it would be nice to sweep the pool
. I only posted all three separately incase the links didn't work.

We do seem to have a habit in this little old country of ours to find some wonderful undeserving causes to spend our public money on.I guess the only reason we do it is to give us something else to talk about bar the weather A fine write and an enjoyable read Could you pick up all three trophies with these?

Thank you for breaking my duck on this piece. After 7 months it is nice to know someone has read it.
