Love (A Contemplation)

Love
The world seems to turn for it
The world burns in it
And yet... what has love ever given?
Heartache
Pain
Regret
Doubt

Love
Supposed to be a tender word
Supposedly a joy to be heard
Or felt
Not feared

Love
It surrounds
It abounds
It eludes
It consumes
It fills the glass to drown out the rest

Love
People kill for it
People die for it
Many spend their lives chasing it
Or avoiding it

It has many faces
And many impostors
Perhaps even twins

Love
Wings
And a cage

Author notes

I tried to write a poem for this contest= http://allpoetry.com/poem/1296784

....but it just didn't work. Somehow I can't give encouragement o nlove. I seem be lost in it. Like a person in heaven who loses their faith in god....

This is a good poem, I like it a lot. I personally think that love finds you and not the other way round - and often with love there come a whole lot of not-so pleasant feelings...and sometimes you love so much that it hurts (so good, hehe). I really liked the structure of this poem, the last stanza is definitely my personal favourite. Great choice of words, very clear and straight forward meaning - I enjoyed it a lot!
