To Hold As A Promise

When I look through your eyes,
I am beautiful. I am strong.
Just one glance gives me the future.
To hold as a promise.

When the past comes sneaking back in,
Torrential torment of unshed grief.
Your arms soothe the pain.
Just one touch gives me the future.
To hold as a promise.

Life would be too cold and lonely.
Without the passionate heat,
Of you at my side.
Just your time gives me the future.
To hold as a promise.

I had lost the laughter that lights
All of life, until you
Spoke it into being again.
Just a word gives me the future.
To hold as a promise.

In you, I find everything I ever dreamed of.
Everything I never hoped to have.
You are my heart's lifeblood.
In you, I have found love.

Author notes

I met my husband online two years ago and left England to come to Canada to be with him. We married April 1st last year. It just gets better each passing day. Butterfly used to be my online name. I read all comments in contests.

    This a beautiful piece. How you repeated the part "gives me the future to hold as a pormise" really adds to the emotion in the piece.

    Wow. I really enjoyed this poem, so beautiful. I love the repition of the title throughout the poem, and that last stanza hit me deep. An amazing write, and thank you for entering!
