Make your own road

The time has come to spread your wings
And make the skies your own
Accept what the future brings
Without becoming a clone

It’s easy to fall into rut
And follow the trodden ways
Go for the feelings of gut
To make a difference in your days

Stand up for what you believe in
Without budging even an inch
Don’t let people under your skin
Or from challenges ever flinch

Advice from many will come
Pointing to this way and that
No harm in following some
With help from your thinking hat

As you turn another leaf
In this book we all know as life
May there be no trace of grief
Nor any hurdles causing strife

Very profond thoughts you've penned here Joe... I agree one should listen to one's concious... one should listen to everyone but should follow one's heart... glad you're writing again...

Sorry I closed my contest too early but I was in a hurry to get Fawns present for graduation done so I could wrap it up. I really like this poem.... its everything I would want to hear if it were me graduating this year, and hope that I could succeed in as many things as Fawn has.
    great job

A wonderful poem with a profound "message" - such depth in this poem...only a soul that has lived the true life can write something so beautiful and so spiritually uplifting! While reading this poem I was thinking...yes, that is how we were born, to spread our wings and fly...and oh, I so agree with the gut feeling - the little inner voice that points the way, the real and true way. Thank you for lightening up my day with this beautiful poem of hope and light!

    Excellent advice

It is good to see you appear with advice to share under shared starlight. A spiritual canopy of blessings is prayed your way to follow you forevermore.

This is good advice, though we are often like Oscar Wilde, who said, "The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself."
In this case, you prove him wrong. I like the repetition of advice to use one's own resources, and think for oneself. The gut feelings are usually correct, too!
    Well said, Joe!

Is it supposed to be called Make Your Own Road? I really like its about life and how we can stumble.
