we know it's summer
when we flock like birds
on the green grass
with our bare shirt tales
hanging limply,
our ties discarded -
our hair filled
with white stars and
our hearts filled
with rebellion.
when the skies grow
until they fill every
horizon with blue heat.
when our bags are
suddenly far too heavy,
And We Just Wanna
Have Fun, You Know?
and work stretches and stretches
and stretches and we watch
the seconds tick,
(tick, tick, tick, in the same
place)
waiting for the moment
the bells ring
and we can be outside.
greeted with warmth and
warm smells, and warm
tarmac (that sinks slightly
when we stand on it) and
bright sun.
when the last honeysuckle
flowers drift in brown piles.
when everything
begins to
slow
and slip
along,
greased with laughs.
we scheme,
huge, impossible
plans,
of Where We Want To Go
This Summer
(paris, venice,
canada),
and How We Will
Take A Road Trip,
Someday.
and it all
becomes hilarious,
but in That
Depressing Way,
and we are confused.
when the sun shines,
and we fall in love.
we make friends,
we lose friends.

Aww. Makes me regret that summer is ending. A delightful read. Most of it flowed nicely as was very decriptive. I did not care for 'And We Just Wanna Have Fun, You Know?' To me that seemed like a simple teen phrase inserted in a lovely description. But it was good enough for gold. I think that's because the rest of it flowed.

i really liked this..it flowed beautifully and it had so many seemingly innocent but honest truths in there...A very relatable piece for sure, you captured it well
nicely done, good write -
Wonderful piece! I certainly loved it, and a great topic too!
