Midnight Ride
Ben Camenker
(After Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s classic, I found out that this did not occur at all the way his story illustrated it. In anger of History polluted for an easy story, I retort.)
Listen, Misguided, and you will learn
Of the fame that Paulie didn’t earn.
They say the truth is stranger than fiction.
I submit this poem as contradiction.
Paul took off for a ride at night,
Also true is the part about the North Church Lights.
But THAT is where the whole truth ceases
(As is often the case with masterpieces.)
A few things were left out about Paulie’s mission,
And now for you I will try to correct the Omissions.
That Paul Revere started the ride, I have not any doubts.
The problem is that halfway there he’s caught by British scouts.
So listen my children, and you shall hear
Of a tale very insincere
Cause there were more people than just Paul Revere
To bring the warnings to the townsfolk’s ear.
But about those anonymous, you shan’t hear,
For it’s too late- we revere Revere.
What did you think

i can quite honestly say that i really, truly, dont have any doubt that i have no idea what the hell this poem is about, however i would like to say that it is a very good piece of poetry, i enjoyed reading it [i am used to not understanding things - i.e. women!] but i wont - damn i just did! bugger! -
Great write!!!
Wow I always felt the same! I had heard that he had been captured and never had made that trip! Why should he get the credit? I love how this poem flows and rhymes!! Everything seems to go, only thing I'd even consider changing is perhaps the number of syllables per line! <3 Thanks for a great write
