Burnin' Midnight Oil

I'm burnin' midnight oil
And gas prices are high
I'm burnin' midnight oil
It's just enough to get by

And the results are
Exhaust from the muffler
Oil drips and I'm a disptick

And the results are
Exhaust from the muffler
Oil drips and I'm a dipstick

My momentum tires
As I'm wearin' down
Oil drips onto a news clip

I fall apart
Like a primitive car
Oil drips as my conciousness slips

The light grows dimmer
As I'm comin' round
Oil drips, Just hope nothing gets lit

Yeh, gets lit... gets lit... Oh shit

I'm burnin' midnight oil
And gas prices are high
I'm burnin' midnight oil
It's just enough to get by

Author notes

Inspiration: Wrote this mentally one in the shower, about an hour after watching a Metallica DVD. (Suprise, suprise.) It was somehting Hetfield said, like, "Lars is nocturnal, I'm a daytime guy, and Bob (Rock) is just up 24/7 burnin' midnight oil." So I thought to myself, that's exactly what my dad does, so I wrote this off the top of my head. I'm pretty happy the way it turned out because the original wasn't as good.

I wish I could hear the tune to this, I always love to read other people's lyrics because I am a songwriter myself. The song of mine which you commented on needs a better tune though. This was a very contemporary write, I liked it!
