The Ride Home

No words were ever spoken
none then nor since
it was never told how he found
sister’s borrowed bicycle
ditched in a field of weeds—
He knew—
better to walk to baseball practice
in spite of mom’s good intent

No stretch for 9 year old logic-
after practice-
none to question nor ridicule
a grown man on a girl’s bike
the young man perched on
straight chrome handle bar
taking home and to the grave
a father’s silent smile

    Engaging

This poem is a real mystery. It is very subtle but spooky in a weird way. The imagery transports the reader right into the scene. Even though you don'y know exacty what's going on you still get the sense of something profound.

I didn't really understand what was spoken of in this piece, but it seemed well penned just the same.
