One Day, and Now, Today...

Missing image
One day you walked into my life,
    why this happened, I cannot explain…

What I do know this,
    it was meant to be…

You’ve heard all of what happened,
    all of what I wanted.

You listened to me fully;
    you hoped with me;

You dreamed with me;
    you wished with me.

So many times I thought I’d lost you…

So many times you almost couldn’t listen.

But you did anyway,
    because you cared…

That care began to change one day;
    it began to change into love.

I was probably more lonely than anything else,
    scared to face the future…

As I got past my loss,
    I looked around,
          and there you were.

Smiling, laughing,
    being there for me again…

Again, and again…

My feelings began to change for you one day.
    I fought them, thinking it was too early, too soon…
          I thought it could be a mistake.

They had changed from mere friendship;
    from someone who just cared;
          to feelings of love…

Feelings I thought at times
    I’d never feel again…

That first time I said the words,
    they were tentative,
          almost apologetic…

I surprised myself when I spoke the words
    "I love you"…

You responded with a smile,
    and a tear, and,
          an “I love you too”...

I was almost surprised…

Sometime later,
    we talked around a subject,
          like most couples do,
              we weren’t sure of what exactly to say…

For you don’t want to ask the question,
    without knowing its possible answer.

Then one day,
    I took my heart in my hand,
          put my feelings on my sleeve,
              I took you by the hand,
                    and looked deeply into your eyes,
                        the windows to your soul,
                              and I began to query…

I asked:

“Do you care for me?”
Your answer was “Yes”

You didn’t seem to understand my question.

But I continued…

“Do you love me above all others?”
Your answer was “Yes” again…
(With a puzzled look in your eyes)

So I continued again…

“Do you feel in your heart we’ve made,
The right decisions for us both?”

Your answer was “Yes” still again…
You weren’t sure where I was going.

Then I said,

“Do you want to spend the rest of your life with me?”
Your answer was “YES” again
Tears began to flow from your eyes…

Then I said:

“Will you be my wife?”
Your tears flowed freely…
Tears of joy and happiness.

And you said:

“YES, YES, YES”

Today we’ll begin a life together,
    as we both want…

We stand here today with all of you,
    before all of you in the eyes of God.

Where we will be asked the age-old questions…

And we’ll answer:
“Yes” and “I do”...

We’ll walk together from this place,
    arm in arm, into our new families’ arms.

They’ll welcome each of us,
    into their families.

We’ll welcome them into ours.

We’ll begin a life together,

Today…

As husband and wife…

To be together,
    till death us do part.

Let’s all hope and pray,
    that when that day comes,
          that it is many years,
              from now…

After many years of happiness, honor, respect…

And most of all…

LOVE…

    Great job telling the story of the journey you and your wife took to get to the day of the wedding. It is a complete story from the day you met to the day you married. Hopefully that story will continue on with many happy endings.

    The part of the poem in which the proposal took place brought tears to my eyes. Also, I really related to the beginning of the poem. Thank you for sharing.

    totaly way groovie like summer time nookie,
    The only thing I as a reader way tangeled in
    was the repetivness.
    But then again I understand.
    Gr8 telling of new love
    and how life changes.
