The Story Book

Such wonder and amusement
as they all sit down to hear
words of laughter and enjoyment
sitting quietly  to be near

As she tells of pretty faeries
and of goblins in the glen,
toadstool houses, (Mrs Mouse's)
and the Witch of Hollow End

Toasted crumpets, dripping butter
keeping warm upon the hearth
sleepy children huddled safely
dreaming dreams of magic paths

So the rain continues falling
and the sky is getting dark
but for some folk who are drowsy,
Witches broomsticks in the park.......

wow, this is incredibly good, it has the cosy cuddle up feel that is the essential ingredient in all kids literature.
Have you read Shirly Hughs books, your work has a very similar quality, this is truly special

Thank you, yes some of the old traditions such as reading to children is sadly dying out, which is such a shame. All those wonderful fables are only brought to life when "mom or dad" whispers the words..To me, reading to children forms an invisible "bond". The special thing about it all is that those children then go on to have their own children and repeat the process. It stimulates the mind for children and also allows the adult a chance to re-visit their childhood, As a grandmother, I still enjoy the look on the little ones faces whilst reading "Goldilocks and the three bears"..their imaginations run riot, and the whole story takes on a whole new dimension. They see so much more than we do..perhaps over the years we loose the ability to use our imaginations. Sorry I am rambling Many thanks for your kind comments, they are greatly appreciated

    I really enjoyed this!

This poem brings back memories of having my mom read fairy tales to us when we were small and also of reading stories to my daughter when she was small.Gee, I still read to her alot untill she was in about 7th grade.{By then, she was a little too independant and had to read her own all of the time.} Well, I guess it seems to be a fading custom for some here in America to read nursery ryhmns and such-but it wasn't for me.I kept the tradition going well.I enjoyed reading them myself and I probably still will, when I find the time.{I still read Dr. Suess at times!}He brings out the child in all of us!

    wonderful

Wonderful. Very cute. The rhyme and assonance here and there sounded brilliant. It is rare to find such pure and easily flowing pieces. Great.

I think that we need to hang onto the magic we learnt as a child.."Santa" and the "Tooth faerie".."Tinkerbell" etc. all add to our makeup as adults..it holds the magic for when we have children and grandchildren of our own Thank you for your kind comments, I appreciate then
