Remember Our Heroes

Let us honor our lost soldiers today
they have fought in wars to keep us free
so many of our finest men and women
have given their all fighting for liberty

They have fought with the infantry
they have manned the turrets at sea
having stormed the beaches on D-Day
helped our allies win a great victory

Some died in Korea far from home
others were drafted to fight in a war
then sent to die in southeast Asia
many never heard of Vietnam before

Then there was the Gulf War in Kuwait
even though it didn't last very long
many fine young men and women
died trying to right what was wrong

At this very moment there are soldiers
fighting a war to let people live free
freeing people from terror and tyranny
giving their lives, dieing so bravely

Let us honor those who have sacrificed
the men and women who gave their all
so many are walking around Heaven today
welcoming home the next soldier to fall

Let us pray for our troops far from home
ask God to protect and comfort each one
we ask you Lord to keep them all safe
God Bless them till the fighting is done

Author notes

Let us remember all the men and women who have given their lives fighting for our country. They sacrificed everything to serve their country and to fight for freedom all over the world. God Bless  all of our military service men and women and their families.

    Beautiful and heartflet

    Sandy...
Thank you for this beautiful heartfelt poem and thank for remembering our troops. So many people won't because of there views of this war. They should remember that someone somewhere at some point in time put his life on the line so that we... the people of America and the world today... have the priviledge ( to me freedom is a priviledge. It's not a right) to enjoy the things we have today. The things that most of us take for granted. A soldier fought in some battle so that you can enjoy life to the max in your own way. I think paying tribute to them with a prayer each night is fitting and with a poem that they can read and enjoy. Thank you for sharing. Love and hugs...

This tore at my heartstrings...my eyes burn from tears. This is so beautiful. My daddy went to Nam, and by the Grace of God he returned home to us...until 2001.
My husbands 3 brothers served in Korea, and one in Nam. It changed them tremendously from what I am told. One, is no longer with us.
Yes, I join in rememberance with you and all America for this day means freedom for all of us, left behind.
    Wonderful work!!!!!!!

    Onward Ye Soldiers,
    Marching to this war
    The battle is raging
    just like it did before

    World War One and
    World War Two
    Vietnam and Korea
    what are we to do

    Cold War and Cuba
    and the Desert Storm
    Many lives were taken
    it's time to reform

    Take a Stand today
    let your voice be heard
    Shout out for Freedom
    Freedom is the word

    Iraqi troops dying
    Afghanistan troops as well
    So many blood shed stories
that mommies will have to tell

    No daddy to snuggle
    and no mom to play
    I don't think God intended
for us to live this way

    Shout out the name
    the name of Christ
    He is the only one
    that can save your life

    You want freedom
    You want peace
    You want the wars
    and blood shed to cease

    You want happiness
    you want a family life
    You want to be freed
    from your torment and strife

    Well, Jesus is the answer
He can take your pain away
Just believe in His Name and
get down on your knees and pray

    Receive Him in your heart
    start your life anew
And let Jesus be Your Savior
as He lives inside of You

Sandy, Sandy, Sandy, what else can I say? You have totally outdone yourself on this poem. You always amaze me with the amazing words and poems you write!! I can't even comprehend how wonderful this poem was. It is so sad to know that we have troops dying everyday, and there are still people here in the US that are not supporting our troops. You know, it's quite funny, if it wasn't for our troops, we wouldn't have the freedom we do today. We wouldn't be alive probably. So I think those that do nothing but complain need a reality check. We can't change the course of history, war is going to happen, and though it is not the best solution, there is nothing we can do to change it. So you can disagree with it all you want people, but it won't stop the war. So instead of casting insults at them, why don't you just pray for them. And let them know you love them. Is that too much to ask for? I am sure you wouldn't want any of your kids to be over there and having people here hating them and casting insults at them, so just pray for them, that's not too much to ask for. And just pray that this war will end soon so they can come back home. I really enjoyed this Sandy, thank you for sharing this with me!! Take care my friend!! I love You mom!! God Bless You!!

Sandy, your words really touched my heart. My uncle is in Iraq right now and I feel really scared for him. My aunt and cousins surely are more afraid. He had told me in his e-mails that he could hear bombings almost every night. Thank you for this wonderful write. Such a great tribute for those who had risked their lives for freedom and justice. Cheers! Eris

This is such a wonderful tribute to our soldiers. It makes you think about the loved ones that we have in the service fighting for us. It really pains me to see so many of our soldiers die fighting for our lives. Thanks so much for this wonderful tribute.

    thumbs up!

    Very heart felt.
They did thier duty. And you did yours by supporting them this way. This poem as so patriotic that it's just a gem!

I wish I could agree with the seeming sentiment that I get ... but I don't not believe that the loss of life is justified. I do not believe it ever could be. I have never lost anyone to war. So that view isn't the result of loss. I think the loss of life is tragic and horrible. No matter how you look at it. And I think that the other powerful nations in this world have blood on thier hands because had they offered aid... so many young men and women would not still be dying out there on foreign soil, as they are, to save the world. I think that what makes this tragic, is that it could have been prevented. And I salute the soldiers whof ace death every day because they believe that the rest of us should not have to live in fear.

I would like to ask that you read a poem entitled, "Misconceptions" by Sayyadina21. Because when I read the line of your poem that goes, "At this very moment there are soldiers
fighting a war to let people live free
freeing people from terror and tyranny". Please read that poem. It will provide the persepective of what many believe are people oppressed. Like this one, that poem touched my heart.

    Great write!

    Well done

This is indeed a very good prayer and I applaud how you did this. I have to say that frightendove is correct and most people today don't understand that.

The emotional side of me says this a well written and structured tribute to our brave men and women who have and are sacrificing themselves for our freedom. I salute you for it.
As a veteran, the pragmatic side of me says there are two rules in war.. rule one: young men die. rule two: you cant change rule one. Unfortunately sometimes the job just has to be done and I again salute those who do it so well.

God bless them. My own thoughts on war are conflicted, if you excuse the pun; I believe war is an evil yet I am undecided for now as to whether it is an unnecesary one. And I am not one of those people who can clump together all military personnel as heroes: having taught in an inner-city school I had a whole class of ill mannered devil-children who wanted to join the army because it a) gave them free 'holidays' as they put it, Gave them an excuse not to study as they didn't need to for the forces and c) (most appallingly) so they could go and kill "F**cking pakis and niggers" (please excuse my language, this is a direct quote I sadly heard many times). So I refuse to believe everybody who has fought in a war is a hero - sometimes they are just nasty little cowards.
HOWEVER, I do desperately appreciate those who have died for us, those who so want to see the world made right, those who are prepared to sacrifice themselves for the sake of good. Thank you. I can never say that enough. Thank god there are soldiers and sailors and all the others like them!
