A five year old throws a tantrum.
She can’t play with her dolls
because a nap is more beneficial.
She runs out the bedroom door
through the dining room
down the front steps and Outside.
Outside where it’s not safe.
Outside where the strangers lurk.
Outside where the oak trees are massive
and the gutters are rancid.
She races along the cement sidewalk,
around the corner,
and past the store fronts
advertising dry cleaning and shoe repair.
Then the sidewalk ends.
She is too frightened to cross the Street.
So she waits to be rescued.
Soon he comes swiftly to her
and sweeps her in his arms
smothering her with chaste kisses
and comforting hugs -
his eyes are full of joyful tears.
She is unforgotten.
He has found her.
She is not lost.
She can hide in her Daddy’s arms
and cry and say
she’s so sorry for running away
and she’ll never do it again.
Unforgotten at five years old.
Unforgotten for always.
Never alone.
Never abandoned.
Her Daddy now with Jesus waiting
for an eternal reunion.
She is the unforgotten one.
You are too.
Author notes
This is a true poem for my father who died when I was 6 but is forever alive in my heart.
Happy Father's Day Daddy...I love you.
"Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee." - Deuteronomy 31:6 KJV
My dear Daddy died when I was six but he instilled in me the faith that he would always be there for me. He also told me about Jesus and how God would never leave me. Even though I only had him for six years, my Daddy instilled a life-long and life-saving faith in me for God's goodness.

Perfect job conveying your heart. Congrats on the award. May you continue to find love in God's glory.

dictionary.com tells me there is no such word as “unforgotten”. There should be. It fits this work perfectly. I like what you’ve done here. Thank you for entering my contest.

I had to applaud this again....too bad it doesn't work.

This was a sweet dedication to your father. Really made me cry because I miss my Dad. The picture just made the tears fall. Excellent job on this and I'm glad I just got the chance to read this. You deserve every applause you got for this and you still deserve much more....

Wonderful
I am so glad I read this... Sometimes, spirtiually, we are all like children, wanting what isn't always good for us, and not wanting what we really need (ie a nap) and sometimes we run away, but this poem was a beautiful reminder how our heavenly father never forgets us, and when we are in moments of being willful and we run away, he comes looking for us, scoops us up in his arms, rejoices that he has found us, W O W -
beautiful
Awwww...this touched my heart so so deeply.
A powerfully touching piece of poetry, written very very well.
beautiful, simply beautiful!! -
lovely
such a sweet and emotional poem, the story of it is beautiful and i guess, even though it is very sad about your father its good to know he brought so much happiness and of course is still with you in spirit... i love the way you have structured this, even if it is a bit unusual. the description of the "outside" is lovely... the whole thing is a georgous write, keep it up x -
very special piece
really touching so full of eternal love i hope you truly hold to this great peace offered to you by the greatest of mysteries love love bloodstone -
excellent
I will always remember my little sister paking her bags and running away. She got half way up the hill where there was an abandoned OPEN well when My mother went tearing after her. I could see them in the distance. My sister being hugged and brought back home. I remember feeling jealous that she had been naughty but had recievd a cuddle then home for a cookie and a solf drink. Funny how we get reminded of things. This poem is lovely. What a great way to apy homage to your precious father. You were a lucky girl. God Bless you. -
you told of a beautiful experience that you'll always remember. You told a story with a life's lesson. It was very well presented. And it amazing and wonderful to find people who still believe in God and read the bible. I commend your effort in this world that has become so ugly.
-
Wow this is so touching. I never had a father who loved me. He was an advocate of abuse...just about any kind. But this is an amazing poem. You are obviously a very talented poet and individual. I wish you well in everything you do. This was definitely a great write.

I really enjoyed this sweets and my favorite part was She is unforgotten.
He has found her.
She is not lost.
She can hide in her Daddy’s arms
and cry and say
she’s so sorry for running away
and she’ll never do it again.

That is so sweet, I would be proud if my father did that. I almost ran away when I was seven, but the tears in my little brother's eyes stopped me. Anyway I like the rhythm and the meaning behind this poem but it'sset up is a little haphazard.
-
Thank yo Vickie. He was like Jesus. He was a believer and when it was finally time to surrender my life to Jesus 31 years later, my father was right there with me, holding me, and rooting me into the Kingdom. It's amazing how timeless Love is. Blessing to you today and always. - joanne

I truly got goose pimples reading this one. I remember trying to run away when I was six, I packed my bags up and started walking. I don't think I made it out of the parking lot of our complex before I felt terrified. Nice job.
-
Your father was much like Jesus in that he didn't reject you when you ran off, but pursued you with a passion. Often I hear people say they don't feel close to God and I want to say, "You know He hasn't moved off, He's still where you left him when you moved off".
This was a precious poem-deeply stirring and inspiring, as well.
Thanks for sharing this, Joanne.

wow. this is a touching poem i enjoyed reading this, and it's nice to know that the daughter is unforgotten...i really like this ,and i hope you read some of my poems
-
I lost my dad just over two and a half years ago, so obviously this struck a chord with me for that reason, but more than that too.
It's the theme of your father looking out for you, I think sometimes we don't realise exactly how much they care for us and protect us until we actually sit down and think about it. It's unfortunate that this retrospection is often prompted by sad times and recollections.
It's why the song 'Man of the Hour' always makes me cry, and then I feel like a big wuss afterwards.
I'd appreciate your views on my poem 'My Father's Eyes', because I think you might see something in it.
Thanks for an emotional write. -
This is such a beautiful piece, im sorry your father died when you were so young but reading how you remember him still is so touching and just beautiful.

awesome
ahhh this really hit home for me, not sure why maybe its just with everything thats been going on in my life lately it was powerful to read. you did an awesome job bringing great imagery and feeling to this piece. this completly reminds me of the song "take me to the cross" by al denson...ill try and post part of it:
"She's daddy's little girl
Only three years old
All dressed up in her Sunday clothes
He held her hand on bended knee
He said
I need to show you how to find your way home
As they walked along
How sweet the sound
Church bells ringin'
People gathered 'round
Remember this church
And the cross way up there
Sweetheart, if you ever get lost say
Take me to the cross
High upon a steeple
The one where Jesus died for all the lost people
If you can't find home
Know you're not alone
Take me to the cross
As the years went by
Daddy's little girl
Lost herself out in a big, big world
And the day her daddy died
She said I need to know why
Take me to the cross
High upon a steeple
The one where Jesus died for hurting people
If you can't find home
Know you're not alone
Take me to the cross
Now that same little girl
Thirty years gone by
She still knows here daddy's by her side
She raises her little boy
In her father's way
And she smiles
When she hears her son say
Hey, mom
Take me to the cross
High upon a steeple
The one where Jesus died for all the lost people
If you can't find home
Know you're not alone
Take me to the cross
High upon a steeple
The one where Jesus died for all the lost people
If you can't find home
Know you're not alone
Take me to the cross
Mama, take me to the cross
Take me to the cross" -
Still awesome
This one I had to come back to and read again because it is so awesome. -
Very well done.
Wow this is just incredible and you sure can write them very well I like this. -
i dont know what a verdict is
i liked it... im not much for the christianity... but a good poem none the less... (i dont say that often) -
Wow...emotional for me and great.Nice write!
~Rose -
wow, this is such an insipirational poem. It makes you expect to have the child kidnapped and truly reflects that attitude of many small children. Great job.
-
This was a pretty heartwarming poem, though I am not a big fan of heartwarming stories that's my personal taste so I won't go too deep into that. I thought you should have made the poem flow a little more, and sound more like a poem than a regular story. Still, it was a good story.
-David- -
Your poem, but also the poet's comment is UNFORGOTTEN. It's so beautiful. Such a lovely write with so much love not just for you father but also for the Father in heaven. It almost made me cry. God bless you!
-
Well done. I think you have really captured the heart of all this. The visual was quite cute and the imagery was great (excuse my bad spelling). Two perfect ideals in here, I'm sure this has touched many other people then myself. So it seems already.
"Then the sidewalk ends.
She is too frightened to cross the Street.
So she waits to be rescued."
How many of us are already at the end of the sidewalk? Yet we have no friends or anyone to come save us. Its Jesus' will that he sends those who need them as well to save them. Thank you. Don't stop writting, ever.

WONDERFUL
This was truly heartfelt. I had the most wonderful dad in the world. He is so much a part of me and who I am today. Thank tou for sharing this awesome poem and entering it in my contest. God Bless you. Take care, Sandy
-
Thank you for reading my poem - and yes - I was trying to get the idea across that I was able to love God the Father because of the love and faith I received from my earthly father - I'm glad you saw that! Thanks so much. You are always so kind and gently in your responses. love, joanne

This is a powerful and strong write, until I read the author's comments it reminded me of God who will always follow after us. I'm sorry about your father's passing at an age when you were so young
Keep writing, this was a wonderful poem, so deep and well written
Thanks for your comment
Best wishes,
Pozo

This was a powerful write. The intense feeling I got reading it, anticipating something bad curled my blood..but then thankfully it wasn't. A very emotional and well done write. Best wishes in the contest.

WOW
A very touching piece indeed!
It actually gave me goose bumps....
It had me thinking of that song "Daddy's Hands"
I too lost my dad at the same age...
This one left a pang for me becuz I was not as blessed to have such close relations.
I can't give ur poem enough praise but to say a most poignant piece. Absolutely beautiful and a great way to make someone's memory immortal
Thank you so much for sharing such a personal and powerful write. "unforgotten" alone says it all.
-
I always love reading your poems. They bring me up when I feel down and inspire me to be my best. Your messages are always so tender and sweet. They are truly a reflection of your faith. I hope that I can reach that point one day in my life.
-
You could say the little 5 year old girl is a symbol/standard/example/paradigm of the Christian - a child of a loving father/God....I'm not too sure about what Kierkegaard would say about your interpretation but I won't fret too much. I like it. It's right on. Thanks so much for reading and commenting. - joanne
-
Isn't this supposed to be a paradigm for the soul? well sort off. Kierkegaard would've been angry at this naive interpretation of mine of Christianity.
-
This is so sweet. Awesome message that is here. I love the picture it fit with the words sooo well. Very sweet and yet sad. Great imagery I could paint a picure in my head. Nice job and dad's are great heroes who will always be there to rescue you in your time of need.
-
This is a very touching piece. I love how you convey such a sweet message with a certain image and simplicity. It's calming and reflective. The picture goes really well with the poem, I think. This is a very nice piece of work.
Thank you for your comment and helpful suggestion on my poem, by the way.
