Primordial Pals

Missing image

If it were a few million years ago
and you and I were both dinosaurs,
and if whenever we tried to say hello,
all that came out was grunts and roars,
I’d still be your all-time greatest pal,
your bosom buddy and lifelong friend.
With the prehistoric world as our playground,
the fun and adventure would never end!
We’d spend all day exploring the jungles
and splashing around in primordial ooze.
We’d defend each other from mean ol' T-Rex
and just like now, we would never lose
because we’re a team, an unbeatable pair,
and we would be in Jurassic times, too!
So whether we're humans or dinosaurs
I would never fail to recognize you!

    Hi Ellie,

I'm glad you and your little brother enjoyed this. It was fun to write. Thanks for all the definitions for "primordial". I didn't know a few of those meanings myself. lol

    Good luck judging!

this is soo cool anfd good. My little brother loved it !!! i think the picture was his favourite part but that just cause he doesn't understand all words yet even I had no idea what this word meant "primordial" so I looked it up in the dictionary and it said this

Being or happening first in sequence of time; original.
Primary or fundamental: play a primordial role.
Biology. Belonging to or characteristic of the earliest stage of development of an organism or a part: primordial cells.

so now I know a new word and I love learning new words I had fun reading this poem to my little brother. I like how it rhymes and the message in it is really nice. It made me smile thank you a lot for entering and good luck ellie

=P You write such fun, humorous poems. They make me smile. I even read it to my little sister, and she liked it, too. I also liked you using "bosom buddy"... nice alliteration, I always thought, and it's rare to see people use that anymore.

Thanks, buddy. I appreciate that. The liberals are coming after me again for being mean to terrorists so it's nice to get a friendly message from one of my best pals. And for what it's worth, I would recognize you too, even if you were a brontosaurus or a triceratops. lol

    Hi Michelle,

I got the pic from a dino site somewhere. I'm always "borrowing" images. I'm going to get thrown in jail one of these days. Of course, since poets make no money whatsoever, they'd have a hard time suing me for money I made using the images. lol

And yes, I relive my youth at every opportunity. As the saying goes, "It's never too late to have a second childhood."

    Talk to you soon,

I love the innocence in this poem. What we teach our children about friendship is just as important as teaching them to have faith in who they are. You set this forth with a real essence of knowing a friend and a genuine love. (And, kids love dinasaurs.) hey should relate to this with flying colors!!!

I don't use this word, and I don't mean it in it's conventional manner, so please don't get sick--but this is really cute!!! Not "cutesy," but it makes me feel like I am a little girl going on some imagined adventure-- I mean that I adore it!

this is a thrill.i see it as a great poetic teaching tool for children for it has the moral flavor they need and an entity that appeals to them.a great lesson in the value of friends shines brightly in this endearing dinosaur tale.the flow and the form are such that it becomes a most delightful and enchanting read.i thank you for this for my granddaughter being the dinosaur lover that she is will love reading this.

Aww..Mark...I just love this write...reminds me actually of Shel Silverstein's poetry, which appealed to children and the child within us. How enduring is the friendships we are lucky enough to find and hold on to forever. This is a little bit of a departure for you, and I must say I am impressed and want to read more..!! Hm...do I see a children's book in the future?!?!?Let's talk!! suzy

Well this is certainly original Mark. This reminds me of that wonderful essence of the child's beginner's mind, where absolutely anything is possible. Refreshingly innovative and new. Loved this.

Hey there! Sounds like you are reliving your youth! This is just great! Oh and CutiePie isn't the only one who endured the dinosaur days... where did you get the pic? It's awesome! So reminicent of our younger days when we made ourselves blood brother's and sisters. The pact to defend! I love your imagination...well when we were young.. our imaginations were our toys...Love this Mark! Good luck in the contest.

Very nice subject. I think you are the first person who made such a comment on a dinosaur. I mean, where do you find the inspiration to go back in the past and imagine such interesting animals, the world's most fearless creatures like a very good friend of a human. It's a good job and I wish you good luck. Now, I'll read some of your poems.

I love this, it may not teach them much about dinosaurs but it would definately teach them about friendship. What it is like to have a real friend... Your word usage gives the poem it's humour and the picture is definately a classic, but where's the tights, the cape and the superhero masks...............

    great

ha ha, this is cool. I really got a kick outta reading this. It holds great sentimental value as a poem but it is also very funny to see people being compared to dinosaurs. I like how you say that whether yall are living in todays world or were dinosaurs in prehistoric times yall would still be friends. Very cute poem and I like how you use words such as "primordial ooze" and "jurassic" as this brings a true palentologistic view to the poem. Overall and "A" for this effort and I hope you win your contest. Best of luck, keep it real and take it easy ~ josh

    masterblaster,

Yeah, I guess you could call this one "revisionist history". I was trying to make it kid-friendly as requested by Sandringall, the holder of the contest. I realize they would have devoured each others entrails, but don't tell the kids that! lol
